ST. GEORGE — A St. George man won a $6,000 pool table donated by KCSG Television for the United Way Dixie Ball Drop Prize Giveaway on Oct. 24.
Ken LeFevre picked up his pool table Tuesday afternoon, which he won by donating $20 in exchange for five balls to participate in the ball drop event. The United Way Dixie Ball Drop took place in conjunction with the SwitchPoint and Community Resource Center ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ball drop was originally scheduled to take place during a music festival on Sept. 27 at St. George Town Square, but was postponed due to weather concerns.
When the event was postponed, LeFevre said he thought he wouldn’t have a chance to participate. It wasn’t until he was driving down Bluff Street on Oct. 24 that he heard over the radio that the event was happening and that he could still donate and have a chance to win a prize.
LeFevre said he later learned that he had won the pool table after reading about it in a St. George News story.
The grand prize winners of the Ball Drop for Charity Prize Giveaway were: Dale Johnson, who won a PT Cruiser convertible; LeFevre, who won the pool table valued at $6,000; and Bill Wolfe, who won $1,000.
“I had never done something like this before,” he said. ” I thought it was great to donate and I didn’t expect to win.”
United Way Dixie provides service to Washington County, and 100 percent of its raised funds go to 17 nonprofit organizations, Executive Director Rebekah Pectol said.
“Thanks to our supporters, like KCSG,” Pectol said, “who offered donations, the event was made possible.”
