CEDAR CITY – A woman was arrested Monday morning after chasing a man through the Cedar Middle School parking lot and striking him in the face with a handgun following a road rage incident.

Officers determined that the incident began as a traffic offense that occurred several blocks from the school at approximately 8 a.m., according to a Cedar City Police Department press release.

A man told police that 32-year-old Kimberly Tishie passed him illegally causing a car in the oncoming lane to swerve in order to avoid a collision. The man followed Tishie to Cedar Middle School where she pulled into the parking lot.

As the man approached Tishie’s car, the man told police Tishie brandished a handgun. The man then turned and headed back to his vehicle, according to the statement, and Tishie chased after him with the weapon and used it to bash him in the face.

An off-duty deputy from the Iron County Sheriff’s Department was at the school when the event took place, and witnessed the altercation, and subdued the suspect before she could discharge her firearm.

“From beginning to end,” Cedar City Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden said. “The whole thing lasted about two minutes before it was over.”

Secondary Education Director Jennifer Wood said that by the time the incident occurred about 90 percent of the students were already in class. She said the whole thing was caught on a school surveillance camera.

Tishie was dropping her child off at the school that morning Wood said, but she said she believed the child was already inside of the building when everything happened.

Though there was a handgun involved, Wood said that there were no children endangered because everything was under control so quickly thanks to the off duty officer who was already on the scene. Wood said the school was not placed on lockdown as a result of the expedience and care taken in handling the would-be crisis by local law enforcement.

Tishie was arrested and charged with one third-degree felony for aggravated assault; one class A misdemeanor for possession of a dangerous weapon on school premises; an infraction for disorderly conduct; and a class C misdemeanor for an outstanding traffic warrant for an unrelated speeding ticket.

Tishie was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility. Bail has not been set as of 5:30 p.m. Monday.

Parents of middle school students were notified Monday at about 11:30 a.m. by email and text through the school emergency parent alert system.

Wood said that there are no procedures in place for something quite like this, because you just can’t predict every possible scenario, but that she believed they did the best they could in a terrible situation.

Roden said that if children find themselves in a situation where they see someone on school property who has a weapon they should immediately get to safety and try to find an adult who can help.

Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Well sir, what were you going to do when you pursued her and approached her? We know what you did after she pulled the gun out. But what were you going to do before she showed you she had a gun?

There was nothing wrong with him approaching her vehicle. If nothing else than to say, “Do you know you almost killed someone just now?” So many people refuse to be accountable for their actions these days. If she was afraid she should have locked her doors and called the police not got out a handgun!

You are speculating. I asked what his intentions were. I’m from California where you don’t go after a person that cut you off because they may shoot you. My question is about his intentions. I’m not saying she not a nut job. But perhaps he’s a little nut himself. If it were a man would he have followed him? I’m sure she’s not the first to cut him off.

Another example of how ubiquitous guns have made us all safer.

She’s a lunatic. Hope she gets convicted. It’s a matter of public safety. I guess whether or not she’s convicted depends on what ward she’s in though…

      Or perhaps him?

  • observer October 27, 2014 at 11:12 pm

Do you mean, other than get a license plate and determine if she was under the influence?
Since she was arrested and HE wasn’t, and SHE showed such bizarre behavior, I’d say maybe you should be asking why she was driving like a nut job and then beating up a guy who questioned her bizarre behavior….

Ladybug good question I was going to ask the same thing he’s not a police officer who the heck is he to confront her

  • summer Kirby October 28, 2014 at 1:26 am

He should NOT have approached her vehicle!

Two idiots. CORRECTION: One idiot, (him,) and one total mental case, (her.) Doesn’t it make you feel good to know that these mental case folks are among us, and driving?

What a peach! And what a turnabout from the Utah man beating a woman in these parts of the country. Maybe it was self defense. If she didn’t have the gun, and him being a Dixie area guy, he might have beaten her, and gotten a blessing for a man putting a woman in her place. Ain’t that how it works here?

Sheep must have gotten in trouble before. Sheep blames the Mormons for everything. Sheep needs to quit being a little baby. If my … stink today I am going to blame the local bishop.
    Ed. ellipsis.

As a concened citizen he had every right to approach her vehicle. It is everybody’s duty in the community to insure the safety of those around us. The police are professional law keepers but not the only authority in the community. If he suspected her of being a danger to others he has the responsibility to detain her until the authorities can be notified.

    • ladybugavenger October 28, 2014 at 1:33 pm

Yes there is something wrong with following someone to hold them accountable because in doing so you may end up shot. So for your safety I advise not chasing someone down that cut you off. Anyways, you think they care what you have to say. You think you pointing out their recklessness is going to somehow change them. No. If needed, You write down the license plate and call the cops for your own safety

  • tc rider October 28, 2014 at 9:08 am

excellent job done by the off duty deputy and glad to see the rest of her life will have the cloud of a felony hanging over her head. How did this nut job get the hand gun in the first place?

  • MaraOfTheWilderness October 28, 2014 at 2:37 pm

    Tishie has some issues.

  • Graf Von Koolaid October 28, 2014 at 11:21 pm

    Tishie whipped his tushie!
