Bettye Jane Jennings

Bettye Jane Jennings, age 70, passed away October 25, 2014.  She and her twin sister, Barbara, were was born on September 12, 1944 to George Julian and Marion Viola Stewart Jennings in Little Rock, Arkansas. They were born almost two months early and spent their first five weeks of their lives in an incubator. When they were a one year old, the family moved to St. George, Utah.

Bettye attended school in St. George from kindergarten through eleventh grade. The family moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, and she graduated from Spanish Fork High School and LDS Seminary in 1963. The family moved back to St. George in 1965 where she graduated from the Dixie College Institute Program.

Bettye was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her Savior and her family were the most important things in her life. She enjoyed music and writing poetry. She sang in the ward choir for many years. She took piano lessons as an adult and loved playing prelude music for the Relief Society until her eyesight got so bad she couldn’t see to play.

Bettye learned to crotchet in Primary and crocheted many dollies and hairpin lace afghans for friends and family members. She also made and gave away hundreds of pot holders.

Bettye spent many years doing temple work for others. She did thousands of sessions and only stopped in February when her health wouldn’t allow her to continue.

She is survived by her sister, Elaine Jennings. She was precede in death by her parents; her sister, Barbara; and her grandparents: L.B. and Anna Jennings and Allie and Viola Stuart.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 11 a.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 West St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at Metcalf Mortuary.
  • Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
