Jerry McLain Turnbeaugh, 78, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2014. He was born in St. George, Utah, on March 20, 1936, to Lawrence M. and Wilma Olds Turnbeaugh. He married Wenda M. Nelson on February 16, 1955.

Jerry was raised in Caliente and Pioche, Nevada, until his family moved back to St. George where he met his bride, Wenda. They were married in the LDS St. George Temple and spent 59 years together. Soon after their marriage Jerry enlisted and spent 22 years in the military, which took him and his young family around the world. After he retired he began work at the United States Post Office where he spent another 22 years at the service of St. George residents.

Jerry loved to hunt and camp and enjoyed passing his experienced knowledge onto his children and grandchildren. Jerry also enjoyed building and tinkering with cars and taught his prodigy to mechanic and “Jerry-rig” like professionals. He loved his time spent with his family, especially his grand children.

He is survived by his wife, Wenda M. Turnbeaugh (Nelson), and his mother, Wilma (Olds) Simer. He is also survived by his daughters, Cheryl Fae Hawker (Kyle) and Deena Marie Roberts (Charles); Grandchildren, Chad Lauritzen, Steffan Kelly, Shelby Paige Kittler and Jenica Haile, Kevin, Monikayla, Dylan, Kelton and Kyle Roberts; Step Grandchildren Marshall Hawker, Chad and Justin Boulter; and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Colleen Reusch. He is preceded in death by his father, Lawrence “Mac” Turnbeaugh and brothers, Blair Turnbeaugh and George “Pinky” Turnbeaugh.

Funeral Services

  • A viewing will be held on Monday, Oct. 27, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff, St. George, Utah,
  • A graveside service will be on Monday, Oct. 27  at 11 a.m. at the Washington City Cemetery, 300 East Parkview Drive, Washington, Utah.
