WASHINGTON CITY – Two people were transported to the hospital Monday afternoon after a man traveling southbound on Interstate 15, near milepost 14, lost control of his vehicle and collided with another car before going up the side of a concrete barrier, at which point, his vehicle rolled and came to a rest on its side.
At approximately 12:40 p.m., a man driving a white GMC SUV traveling southbound on I-15 was likely driving too fast as he came down around a corner just prior to the Washington Parkway Exit, Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Grant Hintze said.
“Traffic was backed up just a little bit and he came just around the corner, possibly too fast for the condition, bounced off the concrete barrier on the right side of the road and possibly off the left side – this is according to witnesses – and then he made contact with this gold Toyota car on the backend,” Hintze said, “spinning them out.”
After hitting the gold Toyota car, the white SUV rolled off the concrete barrier before coming to a rest on its side below the side of the mountain.
The gold Toyota car, occupied by an elderly couple, spun out, hit the concrete barrier and then came to a rest head-on against the mountainside, Hintze said.
Medical personnel arrived on scene to safely assist the driver of the white SUV out the back window of the SUV. He sustained at least a laceration on his forehead and complained of back pain, Hintze said, and was transported to Dixie Regional Medical in St. George via ambulance.
The woman driving the gold Toyota car did not report any injuries. However, her male passenger had to be removed from the vehicle by medical personnel and was subsequently transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center via ambulance due to the injuries he sustained.
“The driver of the SUV will possibly be issued a speed citation – too fast for conditions,” Hintze said.
The right southbound traffic lane was closed for approximately an hour, slowing and backing up traffic to milepost 17.
As the scene was being cleared, a tow truck arrived on scene and clipped the side of a Washington City Fire truck that was parked at the top of the hill directing traffic.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by UHP at the scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.

people drive like maniacs any more we will be doing the 75 speed limit and have numerous vehicles pass us like we are standing still thank you for showing more pictures 1 picture don’t tell much of a story
Someone should do a study of the accidents going southbound from the Hurricane Interchange where SR-9 traffic merges with I-15 traffic.
There seems to be a lot of wrecks from the area just after the on-ramp to about Exit 13 going south. I’ve witnessed many times people accelerating to pass everyone in front of them at the first chance they get as they enter I-15. Their actions are very disruptive to all the I-15 folks who were traveling along just fine until those SR-9 yahoo’s mix everything up.
I would bet that the majority of vehicles involved in incidents between Exit 16 and Exit 13 are SR-9 people.
It always amazes me how fast people are to jump up on their high horse! Would it make any of you stop to think for 2 seconds if you knew that the driver of the SUV was a well known and VERY WELL RESPECTED doctor who had just received an emergency call from the hospital?? Another fact of the story is that he was ticketed for “driving too fast for the circumstances”, it is also a fact that he was reported by the police to have been driving “70 miles per hour”. It was stated by several witnesses that they had all passed him as they were driving 75 miles per hour. The roads were not wet nor was there any construction or other road hazards, so as to the “circumstances” I would love to know what those were. It was also reported that he “lost control” of the vehicle, yes, he sure did! His right front tire blew causing him to lose control. Grateful there were no fatalities, and hopeful that people will stop spreading hate and think before they speak!!

Beware the IDIOTS that drive amongst you!
As I’ve often observed, S Utah drivers demonstrate an almost total disregard for speed limits. In a big hurry to get nowhere!
How was the Northbound right lane closed and backed to milepost 17 when the accident occurred in the Southbound right lane at milepost 14?

“The right northbound traffic lane was closed for approximately an hour, slowing and backing up traffic to milepost 17.” How is that possible?
Here, that ‘D’ stands for ‘Dumb De Dumb De Dumb’, that tune that so many drivers seem to be singing these days.
Can anyone say 80?
Great photos, Kimberly.
Thanks for correcting the article; it makes sense now.
TAKES SKILLS TO MAKE AN SUV BOUNCE LIKE A RUBBER BALL.
