OPINION – Sometimes you just need an excuse to celebrate.

Luckily, October is full of festive tricks and treats. But did you know the entire month has also been designated National Cookie Month?  I’ll give cheers to that. With a jug of milk, of course. Let’s get this party started.

The Sugar Cookie, located on the west side of River Road, is a local dessert parlor that even Cookie Monster would be proud of. Perhaps its sweetest feature is that it’s an entire store dedicated to selling one delicacy: sugar cookies. Need I say more?

If this St. George original didn’t already capture your full attention at “sugar cookie,” it’s bound to have you at hello.  As soon as you walk through the doors, the smell of freshly baked cookies fill the air. It instantly offers what you’ve been searching for: made-from-scratch cookies that taste and feel like home. That’s precisely the atmosphere that owners Jeff and Jenny Ewell envisioned prior to opening this childhood dream establishment just three short years ago.

So what makes their cookies so golly-gosh-darn good?  While they make it look so easy, there’s certainly a science behind the baking. Through years of experience, The Sugar Cookie has aced cookie chemistry by simply mastering the basic ingredients. Their flawless formula includes real butter, real sugar, real cream cheese – and a whole lot of love.

The menu features an amazing lineup of eight frosting flavors and four cookie bases that combine to make a delicious dozen. This assortment of melt in your mouth originals and a few slightly unique flavors include: original, lemon, cherry, orange, coconut, red velvet, chocolate, chocolate cherry, chocolate cream cheese, chocolate coconut, double chocolate, and chocolate peanut butter. The ideal way to discover your favored flavor is initially trying one of each.  This is easily achieved  by ordering a dozen of the mini-frosted cookies ($5.95).  Just don’t be surprised when your miniature bites casually dwindle from 12 to zero in less than than two minutes – they’re just that good.

If you just want to start with one, you can never go wrong ordering the original sugar cookie. After all, it does have sprinkles. A few other nice and reliable options are coconut, red velvet, or my personal favorite: chocolate cream cheese. Be sure to keep in mind that after you discover your go-to flavor, you will have to justify going twice a day to satisfy your usual 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock cookie craving. Don’t worry, I’ll most likely be there too.

I know you’re thinking “this place can’t get any better,” but you’re forgetting that I always save the best news for last. (Drum roll please) Due to the inevitable fact that we all have days where we feel crummy, (no pun intended,) The Sugar Cookie offers delivery right to your front door! That being said, you should probably add them to speed dial. Like now.

Forget National Cookie Month; these cookies deserve to be celebrated every day of the year. And so do you. Savor every bite!

Chocolate Chip is the KING of all cookies. Since it doesn’t even get an honorable mention I am extremely disappointed.
Sugar Cookies are for Holidays only.
