ST. GEORGE — A competitive auction for six public land parcels, totaling approximately 191 acres in Washington County, will be held on Oct. 29 by the Bureau of Land Management. The parcels are identified for disposal in the St. George Field Office Resource Management Plan (1999) and Record of Plan Maintenance (2007).
Auction proceedings will begin at 1 p.m. at the St. George Field Office of the BLM, 345 East Riverside Drive, St. George, Utah. Opening bids will start at the appraised value for each parcel.

Proceeds generated from this lands sale could assist with future acquisitions of private in holdings within wilderness areas and National Conservation Areas in Washington County.
On its Web page regarding the sale, the BLM states:
The purpose of the sale is to dispose of federal lands which are difficult and uneconomical to manage as part of the public lands, and to generate revenue to purchase, from willing sellers, lands within Wilderness and National Conservation Areas pursuant to Subtitle O of the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009 (Public Law 111-11).

Oh good! the BLM is selling more of UTAHS! STOLEN land. Knowing their recent tactics I am sure there will be armed guards at the sell so be careful. “BLM” what a worthless federal agency. Almost as worthless as the EPA.
Stolen? from whom? If you mean stolen from Mexico, I could agree. But none of this land ever belonged to the state of Utah. It has been owned by the U.S. federal government since 1848 when it was “ceded” by Mexico. It was never “promised” to the state of Utah, contrary to the beliefs of idiots like Alan Gardner, and perhaps you.

BURTON clearly wants to return this land to the Mexicans. Good on you BURTON! Your heart’s in the right place but I gotta tell you, the Mexicans stole it from the Native Americans.
All the land rightfully belongs to Cliven Bundy. It’s been in the Bundy clan for 1000s of years, when homo sapiens first migrated onto the continent.

I guess all you federal lovers are excited about the Fed’s trying to wrap up even more of UTAH’s land in the “Greater commands national monument” too? A smaller federal government is a good thing folks. Let the state’s manage their own lands the way they need to. If you guys think the Fed’s are so great at managing everything take a look at the social security situation, the post office, health care or ANYTHING else they have EVER tried to manage. Those federal lands don’t belong to the states, they belong to me and you and the rest of us, nationwide. I don’t want the crazy Idaho, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado state legislatures locking up and selling the lands I recreate on to the higher bidder, or more likely, the local big fish with the most pull in the capitol building. Historically western states have done a dismal job of managing the public lands in their trust. Utah let about half of its school trust lands disappear into private hands with almost nothing to show for it. America’s public lands are one of our crown jewels.

Utah can’t even manage the land it has now. The state takes 40% of its budget from the Feds now and filed for six FEMA Declarations for wildfires on state land in 2012. You’re entitled to your own opinion but not your own facts.
Yeah. The federal government is a lot better managers. Can we say 17 trillion in debt there boys?
We fought a civil war, partly over the question of the role of state vs. federal government. About 3/4 million died, approximately 3% of the US population. The hillbillies lost that argument BURTON. We came to dominate the world scene after WWII in no small part because we had a strong central government. It wasn’t the states funding research, fighting the cold war and landing on the moon.

We are all concerned that the federal government is becoming dysfunctional. The difference between dead-enders like you BURTON and the grownups is that we want it fixed and back on track. The looney right disavows any responsibility or need for the federal government and seeks to impede ANY kind of change. If you boys enjoy the federal government and it’s agencies managing every state and everything else why don’t you move to China? That’s how they run their country.
