She loved her family, friends, art and music, sharing her artistic talent with her family, friends. Norma Davis Dixon, age 90, returned to her heavenly home on Monday, September 29, 2014, surrounded by her family. While those of us who remain here are saddened by the temporary separation, there is great joy and excitement on the other side as she is reuniting with her son, her parents, siblings and other loved ones.
Norma was born on August 7, 1924, in Shelley, Idaho, to Francis Marion and Mary Ellen Shelley Davis. She married Dick Dixon on February 24, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple. Five children blessed their home.
She loved being a wife, mother and homemaker and followed her husband to many new places as he served in the United States Air Force for over 30 years. She and her husband were part of the “Greatest Generation.”
After Dick’s retirement and their move to St. George in 1989, she started attending art classes at Dixie College where she became an accomplished artist creating lovely oil paintings. Their home as well as those of her family are adorned with her many works of art, many of which received blue ribbons from the various exhibitions she entered. She will also be remembered for her gift of giving readings, storytelling and her overall sense of humor. Within the past year, Norma and Dick were featured in two film ads that promote water conservation. Norma is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, serving as a temple ordinance worker for thirteen years with her husband in the St. George Temple as well as numerous other church callings.
She is survived by her husband, Dick, who is the love of her life, and her children: Darrel (Melva), Salt Lake City, Utah, Gary, St. George, Utah, Shelley Caldwell (Gary), St. George, Utah, and Duane (Brenda), Denver, Colorado; her brother, Kent (Roene), Provo, Utah. Her son, Ron, preceded her in death along with her siblings Frances, Marion, Harold, Ralph, Grant and Louree. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services
- Funeral services will be on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Bloomington Hills LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 750 Fort Pierce Drive, St. George, Utah.
- A visitation will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to services, at the Chapel.
- Interment will be in Tonaquint Cemetery.
