ST. GEORGE — A man was taken to the hospital Friday morning following a collision that occurred in the intersection of 400 West and 200 North in St. George.
Just after 9:30 a.m., a woman driving a white PT Cruiser was traveling southbound on 400 West when she missed the stop sign at 200 North and crashed into the rear driver’s side of a white Ford F150 that was traveling eastbound on 200 North, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said.
The impact of the collision snapped the truck’s rear axle and caused the truck to spin out, Hale said. The truck then came to rest partially on the sidewalk facing oncoming traffic on the side of the road. The impact also sent the PT Cruiser continuing southbound, crossing the northbound lane and stopping also partially on the sidewalk facing oncoming traffic.
“I was standing on the corner about to cross the street when this happened,” Terri Peterson, of St. George, said. “The crash was so loud. One of them put their brakes on at one point; they kept squealing. I found myself trying to run, which I haven’t done in years. Then a jogger came up and called 911. I stayed with the man and was telling him not to move his head.”
St. George Fire Department, St. George Police and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the scene.
Both lanes from 200 North to 100 North were blocked during the investigation and cleanup of the accident.
The man driving the truck was transported by Gold Cross Ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center and was complaining of back injuries. The woman suffered mild burns to the face from a deployed airbag.
Both vehicles were towed. The woman was issued a citation for failing to yield, Hale said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by responders on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings.
