‘Heroes and Icons’: KCSG-TV launches new, exclusive, family friendly network

ST. GEORGE – As part of some of the great new changes that are coming to KCSG-Television, President and CEO Corbin Wade announced Monday the station will launch a new program lineup aimed at clean, family friendly entertainment that highlights the “Heroes and Icons” we have all come to know and love.

“Change is never easy,” Wade said. “But we are confident that the new programming schedule will be sure to create quality entertainment experiences for existing viewers, while opening up opportunities to excite a whole new audience, as well.”

Wade said the decision to switch from ME-TV to the Heroes and Icons network was not one that came easily for the staff at KCSG-TV, but the importance of providing excellent and exclusive programming to their viewers made the choice a necessary one.

As KCSG-TV moves forward into a new chapter, Wade said the promise to provide up-to-date, local information to fans across the state and within the tri-state of Southern Utah, Nevada and Arizona would not waver.

“There are some really exciting new things happening around here,” Wade said, “and these changes are going to help propel the station forward as we continue to grow so that we can best meet the needs of the public.”

Marketing Director Splendor Sargent said – starting now – KCSG-TV is making a commitment to Southern Utah residents to begin airing local high school football games, helping create greater connections between communities and sports.

“We also want to begin to incorporate the local news in Southern Utah in the future,” she said. “We want to be more local and get more deeply involved with the community.”

KCSG-TV, Your Window to Southern Utah, can be found on the following channels statewide: Baja Cable, 86 and 87; Southern Utah Cable, 6; Comcast Cable, 116; Broadcast television, 14, 16; DISH Network, 37; DIRECTV, 44; Mesquite, 6.

The new lineup that first aired on Sept. 29 is jam-packed with storylines that are rich with heroic figures and iconic stars.

Some of the exciting new programming viewers can expect includes: “The Adventures of Superman,” “Batman,” “Wagon Train,” “The Untouchables,” “Comedy Icons,” “Detective Icons,” “Mystery Hunters” and “The Invisible Man.”

A complete lineup of the programming on the Heroes and Icons Network on KCSG-TV, including dates and times, can be found online.
For additional information, contact KCSG Marketing Director Splendor Sargent at 435-634-7500.

KCSG-DT, Channel 14, “Your Window to Southern Utah,” is an affiliate of MyFamilyTV.

KCSG Television is a high-powered station with viewership throughout the Salt Lake DMA (designated market area) on a statewide network of translators, cable systems and via satellite: DIRECTV channel 44; DISH Network channel 37; Comcast Cable channel 116 – Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Cache and Summit counties; Baja Broadband Cable channel 6 – Hurricane, Santa Clara, St. George and Washington City; Optimum Cable channel 6 – Cedar City and Reliance Cable channel 6 – Mesquite.

why not carry some local news while you’re at it?

    • Betty November 3, 2014 at 9:00 am

They used to have a “newscast” but it was more like the weather channel. There was 30-seconds of news followed by 10-minutes of weather and then 30 seconds of news followed by 10 minutes of whether. It was like a challenge, how many times can we do the weather and say the same thing over and over again. I suspect that’s why it did not last. Now, if somebody had the guts to do some real news reporting, The way the city is run would be enough to fill the news with only one little spot for weather.

Heroes and Icons so far has been violent and brutal! I will not watch programs that glorify war, brutality and death, although at times war may be nessary it should not be idolized!
Your current programs will not be watched In my home nor will my family use your sponsor’s products as long as you play this type of horror!!!

    • Nell W April 6, 2015 at 1:19 pm

I appreciate your comment about Heroes and Icons. I live in Maine. I am home sick today. It is the first time I watched this channel. It is new here in Maine too. I watched it since early this morning. I started counting how many people were killed in the last few hours. I am up to 30 people. None of them bleed. None of them are sort of killed and suffer before they die. The all die instantly with no ‘problems.’ It is all very ‘clean.’
Then I started to notice that all the women are portrayed as ‘wicked’ and ‘underhanded.’ I am 53 years old. I grew up watching this kind of television.
Wow, it is abhorrent that national television has gone back to the 50’s.
Do you suppose the NRA is behind sponsoring this ‘family-friendly’ change?
      Thanks, Nell

  • The Rest Of The Story October 3, 2014 at 10:44 pm

“Family friendly”…really? It doesn’t look like that at all. I checked out their lineup and Heroes and Icons seems to be a Testosterone Fest. Not to mention, the high school sports thing. You just lost a viewer.

  • jeff thomas October 4, 2014 at 12:36 am

    what was wrong with Me other than welcome back Kotter and the love boat?shall not even bother with this channel again!{BLOCKED OUT}

  • JRH October 4, 2014 at 1:42 am

The shows on H&I are certainly fine American shows for the whole family, however many of these shows were also available on MeTV. While MeTV had a good variety of action, drama and comedy, H&I is very limited in it’s scope. The Wikipedia entry on the H&I network will make any viewer wonder why this foolish decision was made. You are certain to lose viewership over this change. I will not join anyone in absolutely declaring I will not watch KCSG, but I can guarantee I will be viewing the station much less.

    • Nell W April 6, 2015 at 1:21 pm

I just responded to a person who also wrote into this station to complain. I wonder who is behind sponsoring this new station? Do you suppose an organization like the NRA is behind it?

  • Visiting Anthropologist October 4, 2014 at 8:38 am

Living in the past… Good thing none of those old westerns or crime shows or movies had anything violent in them…and certainly no S-E-X. The family is safe.

  • kcsg fan October 4, 2014 at 10:51 am

I have watched kcsg for year, clear back in the early 1990’s when they started out as kccz from cedar city, I have always loved their station, and I fully support what they are doing and love their progromaing, its free from a lot of stuff, I would let my kids watch it, for those of you who cant stand these good old shows, would you rather they are porno or violent shows, I like what they are doing

    • Oh Yeah! November 3, 2014 at 8:41 am

Oh Yeah! None of these shows have violence in them. But we could use a good porn channel here in St. George! I’ll bet it would be the highest watched channel on TV!

  • rocketgirlinutah October 4, 2014 at 10:57 am

I don’t know why they had to change from MEtv. We as a family would watch this channel all the time. I have tried to watch the programming on this new station. We will not be watching as there is nothing on there that we are interested in.

    • DB October 4, 2014 at 3:30 pm

I’m betting the programming change all came down to $$$$$$…I’ll give them a shot but I don’t think I will like it as well as ME TV.

      • Nell W April 6, 2015 at 1:23 pm

I wonder who or what national group is behind this $$$$$ money change?

I bet it is some organization like the NRA.

It would be interesting to find out.

  • Annie October 4, 2014 at 2:12 pm

I loved ME tv.You just lost a viewer I will not be watching KCSG anymore.

  • Don W. Drake Jr. October 5, 2014 at 7:21 am

I can’t stand KCSG. Anytime I find anything I like they change it after 6 months. I will not watch the station ever again.

  • Koolaid October 5, 2014 at 9:57 am

Is this the local station that airs the Obama is going to take your guns commercials? Or is it the local station that broadcasts the other anti-Obama political advertisements?

  • Dana October 5, 2014 at 11:02 am

After PJ and Tamara left, it wasn’t worth watching.

  • kcsg fan October 6, 2014 at 10:10 am

I love the shows they air, they are wonderfull, thanks kcsg for the wonderfull channel you are

  • Jeff October 7, 2014 at 6:19 am

I pay over$100/month to get 250 channels, yet I watched MEtv 95% of the time. This new channel doesn’t interest me. I think KCSG made a mistake.

  • Margaret Sorensen October 7, 2014 at 11:04 am

One of the highlights of my day was coming home from work about 7 to watch Hogan’s Heroes, Gilligan, Get Smart–then you changed so i couldn’t get Hogan until 9 p.m., so I’d wait to change to your channel till 9 p.m.. Saturdays were good to occasionally watch the westerns–yes, I remember watching them as a kid. But I’d actually enjoy on Satucday Wonder Woman, Batman, Lost in Space in the evenings more than westerns during the day. I live in SLC and was always so glad to have an alternative to the current trend in TV. I have found very little to keep my interest on the new line up and since you only have football on Fridays, there isn’t even anything on Friday evenings to watch with you. Please, please, please change it back! KCSG has just become another station I’m not interested in keeping on the screen. Before this change, it was the station we watched most besides Hallmark.

  • steve October 7, 2014 at 8:46 pm

My wife watched METV all the time with you. We both think that your new programing , “SUCKS”. We wont be watching your new stuff. thanks for nothing.

  • Watcher October 8, 2014 at 2:25 pm

It is all about money. And they still have MeTV. Okay??? Is better than not trying.

  • Jeff October 9, 2014 at 9:23 am

It is human nature to resist change, so it doesn’t surprise me that you are getting negative feedback on your new programming. My wife and I enjoyed the shows before
and after the change. Air times are not a problem: we use our DVR to make our own lineup. Probably the only thing we miss is the Svengoulie slot on saturday night. His humor was a little lame but we enjoyed his knowledge of film history.

  • Dians October 10, 2014 at 5:59 pm

Just heard about the change as I’m out of town right now and want you to know we won’t be watching anymore. We were so happy when you added CHiPS to the nightly lineup, but guess that is now gone. Glad I’m in an area for the time being that still has METV, but that will change on Wednesday when I get back home to Wyoming. You’ve lost us as viewers and guess we’ll be doing more surfing to find something decent to watch in the evenings.

  • bill October 12, 2014 at 5:56 pm

YES…i welcome the change. Steve McQueen is the King of Cool. Great to see him on the air regularly

  • Ed Dylong October 15, 2014 at 10:16 pm

The best show on that has’nt been seen in many years is Cheyenne.I watch every chance I get,and as far as those who don’t care for the program line-up,they have the same options as any other program channel, just change it.As for me,I think it’s great, and will continue to watch.

  • Ed Dylong October 15, 2014 at 10:19 pm

I think that Cheyenne is the best western on tv,and has’nt been seen in many, many years. Those people that don’t care for the programming have the same option as any other channel.Rather than complain about it,just change the channel. As for me,I enjoy the shows, and will watch whenever I can.

“Wade said the decision to switch from ME-TV to the Heroes and Icons network was not one that came easily for the staff at KCSG-TV, but the importance of providing excellent and exclusive programming to their viewers made the choice a necessary one.”

So stupid Does he not know that MeTV and H&I are from the same company weigel broadcasting? Why not carry both? Does that station not have sub-channels like 14.1, 14.2, ect…? Wake up Corbin Wade. I don’t live over there but stumble on this story. I can watch both MeTV and H&I because I pick them up with a FTA Satellite system and a big 8 foot C-Band Dish antenna. For those who would like to get both and do away with the local crap do some recerch on how to set up a FTA satellite system and go to (http://www.lyngsat.com/SES-1.html) that is the satellite you need to point your dish at.

  • Larry October 24, 2014 at 10:26 am

Finally had something to watch on TV with me !! with 12 hours of H&I, it would be ok on weekends, But so for every day watch it SUCKS. were is Adam 12, Beaver, and all of them!

  • Brook October 24, 2014 at 5:58 pm

I watched METV ever since it came on the air and i pay around 166.00 a month for cable and there are channels that i watch alot and one was METV they had good shows on there like CHiPs and Emergency and my husband like the westerns that was on metv you have made a huge mistake in changing this to H&I tv it sucks and i want my metv back please use some sense and see that people are not happy with this change and bring back Me Tv

  • Erica October 24, 2014 at 6:05 pm

You made a huge mistake by doing this you will lose more viewers than you think please change it back i don’t care about this channel now there’s nothing on here i would c are to watch and its absolutely not a family friendly channel I will not be watching this channel ever again . It also looks like u have alot of negative feed back think about that ! CHANGE IT BACK!!!!!!!

  • Maria October 26, 2014 at 6:22 am

THis was a huge mistake dont you people realize about 85 to 90% of your viewers watched METV. you brought back there childhood with shows like chips mash loveboat Gilligan’s island brandy bunch, Now its all gone so we c an watch some kinda educational 40s shows, METV ranked High in network television. it was the only good channel on tv where we didnt have to see murders crime every other word in the book now a days you cant watch a decent show on television. something parents could share with their children from their past, big mistake you made, I hope you realize this when your ratings drop and from the expressions of myself and these other people. #shameonyou #thissucksrealbad

  • Wildcard October 26, 2014 at 4:34 pm

“The rest of the story” has it right. Is this seriously “family friendly?”

This is a bad move. I happened to enjoy the digitally remastered Star Trek and Svengoolie, which followed on Saturday nights and I don’t think I was the only one.

I’m sorry I’m not one of your “target audience.”

    • GUIDO November 3, 2014 at 7:22 am

Svengoolie was the best show on this channel.

  • AM November 1, 2014 at 12:10 pm

Not happy at all with this replacement, so I stay away from your channel. Please bring back ME-TV!!!

  • GUIDO November 3, 2014 at 7:20 am

  • Oh Yeah! November 3, 2014 at 8:45 am

Geeze everybody! Turn off the doggone TV and computer, and get outside into some of the most beautiful country that God has created! Your weight, cholesterol and overall health will improve!
Bunch of couch potatoes. . .

  • Craig R November 9, 2014 at 7:13 pm

I Just spent a week in Salt Lake City and rarely changed the channel from H&I. My hotel TV was tuned To H&I constantly. Even on election night 2014, I switched between H&I and the news. Great channel. Sadly I live in Colorado and no H&I is available on the basic Dish Satellite.

  • TeeJay November 15, 2014 at 10:58 pm

I like to watch some of the shows on H&I. I still get ME TV on another channel. But the picture and audio quality on H&I is ALWAYS TERRIBLE!! The pixels are always breaking up along with the sound. Some days its just IMPOSSIBLE to try to watch a show because the quality is THE WORST!!! I hope the people who run that channel will see my comment and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT! My cable company said you are just about to lose your broadcasting license because of it. I hope you will bother to fix it. For all the people who wish it would be gone…you might get your wish yet.

  • Bongo Bob November 17, 2014 at 4:18 pm

If you like Wagon Train and Cheyenne (not that there is anything wrong with that) Heroes and Icons is a great channel. If not, you are up the proverbial creek without a paddle!

METV had/has far more variety in their programming. They should change the name of Heroes and Icons to Westerns and War Channel! (And I want copyright royalties for the name if they do!)

    Bring back METV!

  • racer1 December 6, 2014 at 9:52 am

  • gentleben December 26, 2014 at 11:58 pm

I too miss a lot of the shows that were on ME but after three months of enjoying the present shows they are starting to repeat due the lack of time they were on the air . I hope the new shows that start next month will be timed so that you will not run out of material

  • Kenny B. January 22, 2015 at 1:49 pm

Just want to say thanks for bringing back the shows that Me quit showing, like 12 O’clock High and the Untouchables. Thanks again

  • fun bag April 6, 2015 at 2:34 pm
