Darryl Worley concert; affordable fun during Bryce Canyon, Ruby’s Inn value season

BRYCE CANYON — Hit country music artist Darryl Worley will perform in concert at Ebenezer’s Barn and Grill at the historic Ruby’s Inn in Bryce Canyon City on Nov. 15, and the venue provides a great opportunity for an affordable night of fun.

“You know,” Ruby’s Inn owner Lance Syrett said, “people come from all over the world to see Bryce Canyon and there are people in St. George and Cedar City that have never even seen it.”

Syrett said:

Come up, bring the whole family, spend the night, get a cheap room, have a nice dinner and go to a concert, and you can be back the next day.

Throughout a career that has produced nearly 20 hit singles, including three No. 1 singles, as well as chart-topping albums and sales in the millions, Darryl Worley has set for himself one primary goal.

“I’ve always set out to make sure every song on every album is a good one,” Worley said. “I want every cut to be a potential single.”

It is an approach that has helped make Worley a mainstay of modern country music.

He has topped the charts with singles like “I Miss My Friend,” “Awful, Beautiful Life” and “Have You Forgotten.” Along the way, he has earned nominations for five major ACM and CMA awards, including “Song of the Year” and “Single of the Year.”

Tall and athletic, Worley might have earned a sports scholarship to college, but he lost the opportunity when he broke his back playing basketball. Still, he earned a degree in biology with a minor in organic chemistry, playing music in honky-tonks all the while. He continued playing as he worked in the chemical business and taught school for a year – torn between the pressure he felt to establish a secure career and his deep-seated need to pursue music. Finally, his father helped him sort things out.

“One day he said, ‘If you’re still thinking about that music thing, you better do it now,’” Worley said, “‘because if you don’t, you’ll be trapped by the obligation of the debt and the responsibilities that come with life.’ That was all I needed to hear.”

A gifted and hardworking songwriter, Worley signed a deal with Fame Publishing in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, to write songs for $150 a week. In 1994, he was signed to Nashville’s EMI Publishing and made his way to Nashville, Tennessee. After half a decade of sometimes frustrating development deals, in 1999 he earned the label deal that moved his career into high gear.

A dedicated family man, he credits the current stability in his life to wife, Kimberly, and daughter Savannah.

I feel like my wife and baby girl have breathed new life into me,” Worley said. “It’s made me want to be a better man, a better Christian, a better husband, a better role model. I feel like I’ve got my priorities in order.”

Make a night of it: Tickets and discounted lodging

Tickets to Worley’s start at just $10. Book a night at Ruby’s Inn for the evening of the concert and receive 15 percent off the room rate by entering the promo code CONCERT. Syrett said November is value season so lodging rates are already low.

“It’s exclusive enough,” Syrett said, “that if you want to make a date out of it and you want nice seats up towards the front, you can pay a little bit more for the tickets – even the reserved seating up towards the front is only $35. But if you want to sit towards the back and bring the whole family, we have those general admission tickets starting at $10.”

The concert will be held in the Ebenezer’s Barn and Grill venue, which seats 900 people.

“It still is a very nice, intimate venue,”Syrett said. “It’s not like a big arena; it’s more like an auditorium and feels very homey.”

Ruby’s Inn offers a full-interactive website where people can see the seats, choose their tickets and book them online.

“We sit up here all summer long,” Syrett said, “clear full with people from all over the world that come see Bryce, and it’s just a shame if you live in St. George or Cedar City and have never seen it. So this is a great opportunity to do that.”
