Spendlove, EnaSpendlove, Ena Y(May 23, 1925 — September 22, 2014)

Ena M. Spendlove, born May 23, 1925, to Mary Ann Lang Johnson and Warren M. Johnson, in the Cottonwood Maternity Home in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City, Utah, died peacefully with her children around her September 22, 2014, at the age of 89.

During her youth, she lived in Cedar City, Utah, Lee’s Ferry, Arizona (the best year of her youth). After the third grade, her family settled in Hurricane, Utah, where Mom graduated from Hurricane High School before marrying the love of her life, Tren C. Spendlove on the 26th of July, 1944. They had three children, Paul Spendlove, Jamie Williams, and Dixon (Launa) Spendlove.

Mom is survived by her two sisters, Elinor (Richard) Zoellner, Geraldine (David) Oveson, her three sisters-in-law Beth Johnson, Geraldine Johnson and Flora Spendlove, and one son-in-law, John Williams.

She was preceded in death by Tren (our dad) who passed away on Sept. 19, 1979; her brother, Calvin Johnson; baby sister, Velda Johnson and baby brother, Veldon Johnson; as well as all of Tren’s brothers and sisters: Winford, Lelwin, Phil and Dahl Spendlove, Vinona Esplin, Relva Jenkens and Viva Wilkinson. She was also preceded in death by Evan Cooper, husband; Joe Haycock, husband; and Louis Bushman, husband. Mom’s youngest brother, Jeremiah Kay Johnson died within 24 hours of Mom’s death.

Ena was a member of the Hurricane City Council; the Buenas Amigas Club from its inception and was active in the LDS Church, having served three missions.

Mom has eight grandchildren: Michelle (Jesus) Rodriquez; Cody (Loni) Spendlove; Brett Wright (Julie); Paul Jr. (Frances) Spendlove; Wendy (Curtis) Burgoyne; Jed Spendlove and Brennan (Andrea) Wright. She has 19 great-grandchildren and many stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from later marriages. Mom has many nieces and nephews that she dearly loved.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
  • A viewing will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services.
  • Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Kanab Beehive House, and other caregivers through this last year. We especially want to thank Dr. Robert Rignell for not only his professional abilities, but the care, love and concern that he has shown for Mom and all of us over the years. We have been blessed and enriched to have such a fine doctor and friend.
