DSU professor to offer Dixie Forum presentation on ceramics

ST. GEORGE—Dixie State University Art Professor Glen Blakley will offer a presentation on ceramic arts at the “Dixie Forum: A Window on the World” on Tuesday at noon in the Dunford Auditorium of the Browning Resource Center on the DSU campus. Admission is free, and all community members and DSU students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend.

Blakley, who has taught at Dixie State for 39 years, is very active in the Southern Utah art community. He has served as the director of St. George Art Museum, a member of St. George Arts Council, president of Southwest Utah Arts Council, a board member of Utah Visual Arts committee and director at large for National Council for Education in Ceramic Arts. Additionally, he served as the founding director of the St. George Arts Festival and has stayed active with the festival by serving as a juror for 37 years. He is also involved in at least six juried and invitational gallery and museum exhibits per year.

Dixie Forum is designed to introduce the St. George community and DSU students, faculty and staff to diverse ideas and personalities while widening their worldviews via a 50-minute presentation. Dixie State students can earn one college credit by signing up for HUM 1000, attending lectures regularly, carefully considering the ideas expressed and writing about the presentations.

Continuing the discussion on art, Annie Henrie will present on fine art painting at the next Dixie Forum. This presentation will be at noon on Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Dunford Auditorium.
