3 St. George Jimmy John’s restaurants caught in data breach

ST. GEORGE – Jimmy John’s restaurants throughout Utah, including three St. George restaurant locations, are warning customers their credit card information may have been stolen:

It appears that customers’ credit and debit card data was compromised after an intruder stole log-in credentials from Jimmy John’s point-of-sale vendor and used these stolen credentials to remotely access the point-of-sale systems at some corporate and franchised locations between June 16, 2014 and September 5, 2014.

Card numbers, cardholder’s names, verification codes and expiration dates may have been compromised, according to the company.

Jimmy John’s released a list of 216 affected stores Wednesday, including six Utah locations.

The sandwich franchise is alerting customers who used their cards at three St. George locations, including:

  • 930 S. Bluff Street – between July 1 and Aug. 7
  • 910 N. Dixie Downs Road – between July 1 and Aug. 1
  • 42 S. River Road – between July 23 and July 31

In northern Utah:

  • 1482 N. Main St. in Logan – between July 4 and Aug. 9
  • 3501 N. Center in Lehi – between June 23 and July 31
  • 2308 N. University Parkway in Provo – between July 1 and Aug. 4

Any customers who visited the stores during the data breach are urged to monitor their account activity and immediately report anything suspicious to their bank, according to the company’s website.

The company is offering identity protection services to customers who may have been affected by calling 855-398-6442 or by visiting the company’s website.

“The security compromise has been contained,” Jimmy John’s reported, “and customers can use their credit and debit cards securely at Jimmy John’s stores.”

The company said it has taken steps to prevent this type of event from occurring in the future, including installing encrypted swipe machines, implementing system enhancements, and reviewing its policies and procedures for its third party vendors.

Target. Home Depot. Jimmy Johns. Cash is starting to look better and better… I’m sick of being tracked, taxed, spammed, scanned, scammed, marketed to, telemarketed to, lied to, propagandized, etc, etc, etc. All of this convenience demands a very hefty price. I’m starting to think most of it isn’t worth it.

“I’m sick of being tracked, taxed, spammed, scanned, scammed, marketed to, telemarketed to, lied to, propagandized, etc, etc, etc.” How do you really feel about the religion that governs you?

      • Bobber September 25, 2014 at 11:38 am

Kind of is the same thing isn’t it.

        • D & D September 25, 2014 at 2:20 pm

Everyone of Koolaid Rants is about religion or the main religion. Ho or she MUST have something better to compare it with. I would like to know so that maybe other can find happiness.
Well that maybe wrong since none of his rants are happy ones.

          • Koolaid September 25, 2014 at 2:35 pm

My rants are about behaviors and actions. The tie-in you see is for people who use religion to justify their behaviors, attitudes and actions. With legal actions (fines and penalties), can you honestly say those with religious connections suffer the same consequences as those who don’t?

      • D & D September 25, 2014 at 11:39 am

So you don”t believe in God I take from your many posts.
If you do What faith are you, I know a lot of us would like to know.
But then it easlier to put down others that to have a discussion.

OR are you one of those that get all dress up with no where to go when you die.

Koklaids comment has nothing to do with believing In God or not. It has to do with religion but religion can’t save you , only Jesus can. People do things based on their religion or do things because of religion or use religion to cover up sin. Example, I work with this girl that won’t have sex before marriage and gets married (4 times) to have sex because she’s morman and doesn’t want the church looking down on her.. But before she’s divorced she’s in another relationship (adultery) all in the name of Morman. Where’s God in that? She’s worried about what the church thinks when she should be worried about what God thinks….adultery…..so why you judge KOOLAID like that?

          • Bobber September 25, 2014 at 1:59 pm

From what you write she sounds like a true local gal, probably born and bred right here in dixie 😉

          • ladybugavenger September 25, 2014 at 4:21 pm

            You got that right, Bobber

          • Dana September 25, 2014 at 4:47 pm

Most people heavily into religion are more concerned with the hereafter than the here and now. Why men and women have to find someone to mate with immediately after divorcing is beyond me. ESPECIALLY if they have young children.

    • Chaister September 25, 2014 at 8:59 am

      My thoughts exactly, well said.

  • Beerbelly September 25, 2014 at 8:27 am

All of these businesses going electronic and online are creating a paradise for identity thieves. By storing your demographic information like name, address, and credit card information on their server or on the “Cloud”, all a thief has to do is hack into that company’s computer and they have all the data they can dream about at their fingertips.
A few seconds saved by using these systems is not worth the thousands of man hours that are going to be spent to repair all the damage done by these hackers.
Technology has made our lives simpler and more complicated at the same time. Ironic isn’t it?

  • Joanna September 25, 2014 at 9:55 am

We love our Jimmy Johns over on Dixie. The kids that work there are fantastic. I’ll just make a mental note to always use cash when I visit you from now on 🙂

  • JOSH DALTON (INCOGNEGRO) September 25, 2014 at 11:21 am

I ate there everyday last week. Just got my lunch delivered today. Hunger trumps any fear that a hacker can instill into my stubborn daily routine. GO FALCONS!

  • Zonkerb September 25, 2014 at 4:36 pm

I love paying cash and always will
