ST. GEORGE – Jimmy John’s restaurants throughout Utah, including three St. George restaurant locations, are warning customers their credit card information may have been stolen:
It appears that customers’ credit and debit card data was compromised after an intruder stole log-in credentials from Jimmy John’s point-of-sale vendor and used these stolen credentials to remotely access the point-of-sale systems at some corporate and franchised locations between June 16, 2014 and September 5, 2014.
Card numbers, cardholder’s names, verification codes and expiration dates may have been compromised, according to the company.
Jimmy John’s released a list of 216 affected stores Wednesday, including six Utah locations.
The sandwich franchise is alerting customers who used their cards at three St. George locations, including:
- 930 S. Bluff Street – between July 1 and Aug. 7
- 910 N. Dixie Downs Road – between July 1 and Aug. 1
- 42 S. River Road – between July 23 and July 31
In northern Utah:
- 1482 N. Main St. in Logan – between July 4 and Aug. 9
- 3501 N. Center in Lehi – between June 23 and July 31
- 2308 N. University Parkway in Provo – between July 1 and Aug. 4
Any customers who visited the stores during the data breach are urged to monitor their account activity and immediately report anything suspicious to their bank, according to the company’s website.
The company is offering identity protection services to customers who may have been affected by calling 855-398-6442 or by visiting the company’s website.
“The security compromise has been contained,” Jimmy John’s reported, “and customers can use their credit and debit cards securely at Jimmy John’s stores.”
The company said it has taken steps to prevent this type of event from occurring in the future, including installing encrypted swipe machines, implementing system enhancements, and reviewing its policies and procedures for its third party vendors.
