SGPD advises caution, seeks info on suspicious person

ST. GEORGE — This week, the St. George Police Department received a report of a suspicious person in the area of the Rincon Del Sol Apartments, 1180 W. 425 North in St. George.

At approximately 7 a.m. on a day early in the week — St. George Police Sgt. Sam Despain said he did not know the precise day — a male followed a female seventh-grader as she walked to the school bus stop.

The male was described as being in his 20s with blondish hair and was wearing no shirt at the time of the incident, according to a police statement. The man never made contact with the student; however, he made the student feel very uncomfortable, the statement said.

“At this time this is nothing more than a suspicious circumstance,” the police statement said. “However the police would like to speak to this man.”

Anyone with information regarding the incident near Rincon Del Sol is asked to call the St. George Police Department.

There is minimal information about the situation, but  the police know the incident happened earlier in the week and want to find more information, if possible, Despain said Friday.

The St. George Police Department advises that if a suspicious situation or person is causing alarm, the Police Department should be called immediately  at 435-627-4300.

Doesn’t sound as if a crime was committed. I guess I better watch out who I may be walking behind of. Being a shaved head minority with tattoos…..I might look criminally suspicious.

With all the crimes involving dogs, horses, drugs and the sex crimes in Cedar and Hurricane, I’d be suspicious of everyone in those bergs.

      What a loser.

    • Ron September 19, 2014 at 5:27 pm

Especially shaved head guys with tattoos.

Hmm I read it several times, doesn’t say anywhere that just because someone was walking down the street they were suspicious. Says a shirtless 20 year old man followed a grade school girl to a bus stop at 7am.
There is a huge difference between walking behind someone and following them.
Maybe it was a jogger, many people run shirtless in the early mornings. But if some guys follows my daughter I for sure would want to know why. I applaude the police for at least looking into it.

I can’t tell you how many stories I have heard in the past 5 years about creepy people following kids to the Intermiadiate school bus stops at 3 different schools. These buses pick up the kids before 7am sometimes and it is dark and only 1 or 2 kids at each stop and the kids are 11-12 years old. I have no clue why the 11-12 year olds have to start school 45+ minutes before the 13-18 year olds? I carpooled my kids when they attended those schools.

20 ish and blondesh huh no one around here like that. (sarcastic voice)

  • Bobber September 19, 2014 at 11:46 pm

Might very well be a pedifile on the loose. HIDE YO’ KIDS!

What I find funny is that I called the police about a man who was trying to steal a car at the Bloomington Walmart and also about a domestic disturbance an elderly neighbor was having across the street from my house, and the police didn’t really seem to want to get involved in either situation. I felt kind of like “why should I even bother to care about my community if our men and women in blue don’t care,” ya know?! Well, at least they care if a minor is involved! Focus on the positives! 😉

Or dogs and cats, those animals that take priority over everything and everyone because people are insane about their pets. Just imagine the heap of trouble he’d be in if he was following a cat, dog or horse! Then the police would definitely want to check his priesthood status and mission service records!

nobody really cares how you feel but they just do their job. say they did respond and I’ll call you a liar maybe you called in and talk to the dispatcher they are not police you’re right focus.

  • Koolaid September 20, 2014 at 8:49 am

I’d worry about those boys around Santa Clara. Didn’t a few of them abduct a girl a year or two ago but were worthy and had bishop connections to keep them out of trouble?

Let me know to sent more tin foil for your tin foil hat as the one you have is too small.

    • Sweet Jude September 20, 2014 at 4:27 pm

No, Koolaid. That was just a rumor.

      • Koolaid September 20, 2014 at 5:50 pm

Hmmmm…. 14 year old girl kidnapped according to this news report.

      • Chris September 20, 2014 at 7:25 pm

Definitely not just a rumor. In fact, after the incident, the families of the boys and their church officials pressured the girl and her family to not press charges. All of this was well documented in statements from the girl’s family and the police.

        • Sweet Jude September 22, 2014 at 1:50 pm

Oh really, Chris. Wow.. You gotta believe every rumor that’s out there, don’t you? Koolaid has plenty of creative stories for you to watch on You just gotta believe them.

  • Sweet Jude September 20, 2014 at 4:26 pm

Our police dept. has a lot of shaping up to do amongst themselves before they can begin to think about helping the community. Many of them are out there for the wrong reasons.

    • Mark Vinclio September 21, 2014 at 11:23 am

elaborate please what are the wrong reasons you sound like you watch The Bachelor too much

      • Sweet Jude September 22, 2014 at 1:47 pm

I think you watch the Bachelorette too much.

  • Koolaid September 20, 2014 at 5:53 pm

According to St George news. Why did the three boys get off with no charges? Why did everyone feel the girl was to blame? Oh, yeah, she was a female and females always are at fault in the Utah land of Dixie, especially since they don’t have priesthoods.

  • Bobber September 20, 2014 at 7:47 pm

The boys got off because they were perfect little mormon boys and so was the judge. There’s a lot you can get away with for being part of the club.

  • Bobber September 20, 2014 at 11:05 pm

I want to apologize for all my comments. I am an active Mormon and I love the Church. I have just had a hard time lately and was acting childish

    • Bobber September 21, 2014 at 7:53 pm

      Yep, I’m the bishop.

  • Bobber2 September 21, 2014 at 8:13 am

Repent now BOBBER and all will be forgiven. Oh yeah, plus 10%, don’t forget about that part.

  • Zonkerb October 7, 2014 at 10:26 pm

The only suspicious people I ever see around here are police officers
