Registration deadline today for Cycling Heroes Against Abuse event

ST. GEORGE—Time is almost up to register for the first annual Cycling Heroes Against Abuse event presented by the Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf and the Dixie Outdoors ASL Club. Deadline to register is Sept. 19 for the event on Sept. 27 from 8-11 a.m. at Confluence Park, 1850 South Convention Center Drive, St. George, Utah. At the event there will be a 5K run and walk on the Tonaquint trail, along with a mayor’s loop 5-mile bike ride. Registration is available online until Sept. 19. Registration is available by group for up to four people for $30, as well as per person for $15.

The Sego Lily Center for the Abused Deaf is an advocacy agency created help the deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
“We provide direct services to victims (finding a safe shelter; legal advocacy, counseling, support groups, et cetera), support to survivors, in-service trainings to the professionals, education to the Deaf community and collaboration with service providers,” Travis Kayhart said. “We believe every person has a right to live in a nonviolent environment.”
Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals are often at a higher risk of being a long-term victim of domestic violence or sexual assault because of the lack of services and often communication barriers when seeking the services that are available. Because of these issues, often the deaf will remain in the unsafe environment and return to their abuser.
“This fundraising event will assist the expense for the victims who need to leave their abusive homes such as gas, food, first month’s rent, hotel stays, clothing for the children, et cetera,” Kayhart said. “We will also spread the awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault at the event. Let’s walk/ride to end abuse in the Deaf Community!”

Good cause except now you put a bunch of cyclists at risk to those good ole boy rednecks from Southern Utah driving around with a road rage attitude in their smoke belching big trucks. Obnoxious, and obviously trying to compensate for areas they feel they are lacking or coming up short by their need to own big trucks to try running everyone off the road. Perhaps when the women and domestic animals refuse them, they can always turn to their trucks for a thrill terrorizing everyone on the road.
