DeLoy Gubler, 83, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2014, in St. George, Utah, surrounded by his family. He was born February 26, 1931, to Archie and Marie Blake Gubler and grew up in Santa Clara, Utah. He attended Santa Clara Elementary School, Woodward Jr. High School and graduated from Dixie Jr. College.
He served an LDS mission in Northern California in 1950-51. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea from 1952-54.
DeLoy spent his boyhood days working on the farm with his dad and brothers. Some of his fondest memories are peddling peaches up to Beaver with his brother, Dale. Later, he and his brothers bought ranches and livestock and worked together ranching and farming.
DeLoy married LaDawn Porter on August 6, 1955, in the St. George LDS Temple. They are the parents of seven children and one foster daughter.
DeLoy bought into the O.M. Porter Distributing Company where he worked as part owner, salesman and manager for many years. The business was later sold to Rocky Mountain Produce where DeLoy worked until 1986, when he retired so he could spend more time ranching. He also enjoyed driving bus for the senior citizen tours and for Merlin Sullivan.
DeLoy has been active in the LDS Church all his life, serving in various positions, including High Priest Group leader and counselor in the bishopric. He and his wife served two missions together, one on the Navajo Reservation and the other at Moapa Warm Springs.
DeLoy is survived by his wife, LaDawn Gubler and seven children: Natalie Andrus, Bernie Ranger, Jeannie (Dar) Atwood, Claude (Jami) Gubler, Rachel (David) Heinrich, Ben (Gia) Gubler, Shay Gubler; 24 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
DeLoy was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Gubler and Marie Blake Gubler; his son, Chad Gubler and his sister, Anna Smith.
Funeral Services
- Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 18, at 11 a.m. in the St. George 10th Ward Chapel, 500 North Bluff Street, St. George, Utah.
- Visitations will be on Wednesday, Sept. 17, from 6-8 p.m. in the Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff Street, St. George, Utah, and on Thursday, Sept. 18 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the chapel prior to services.
- Interment will be in the Ivins City Cemetery.
