CEDAR CITY — A Taylorsville man has been arrested and charged with five counts of sodomy of a child, first-degree felonies, and three counts of sexual abuse of a child, second-degree felonies, for multiple incidents involving a 13-year-old girl.
During an interview with police at his home, Joel Swindlehurst admitted to the abuse and gave police detailed information about the incidents, Detective D. Orton of the Cedar City Police Department said in a probable cause statement. The incidents allegedly began when Swindlehurst was 18 years old and ended when he was 19.
A forensic interview with the alleged child victim, conducted Aug. 17, 2014, at the Children’s Justice Center in Cedar City, also brought more details of the abuse to light, Orton said in the statement. The incidents are believed to have taken place in Cedar City between August 2013 and February 2014.
Swindlehurst was arrested and booked into the Iron County Jail on Sunday. He is currently being held on $30,000 bail.

Down South they have dry counties, the Baptist in the area will not allow alcohol to be consumed or sold in the county. Midwest Presbyterians will not allow dancing. Northeast have the Amish that will not use electricity or modern gadgets. So do you hate them also or are you a Bigot and Hate Monger toward just one religion.

In Utah Dixie, you find mormons secretly imbibing in alcoholic drinks, although the church frowns upon it as well as places restrictions on where businesses may or may not sell alcohol. The mormon controlled government does not allow dancing. Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest, but you find mormons shopping and causing others to work. In those places you mentioned, is there a double standard of punishment on those of the congregation versus those not of the congregation? And do those congregations segregate as the predominate congregation is said to do against non-members?
Koolaid, nobody is perfect, and everybody has their issues. Some people may choose to drink alcohol, smoke or shop on Sunday all the while still going to church. I don’t see this as hypocritical. This is exactly where I would hope all of us sinners would be. Yes, some people will judge others that do these things all the while they are doing the same. Obviously this is not right and is not condoned. The problem with all of your comments is you lump every single person who associates with the mormon church as a vile hypocrite, which isn’t usually the case. My hope is that all of us, whatever our short comings, are working to becoming a better person. I hope your striving for the same and look beyond your bitterness.
