ST. GEORGE – Fire tore through a St. George home early Thursday morning, completely engulfing the home, and displacing a family of six.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., St. George Fire Department units were dispatched to reports of a structure fire on the 1900 West block of 1700 North, St. George Fire Captain Rob Hooper said, where it was reported that there was a fire in a back bedroom.
“The first arriving engine got there within 5 minutes,” Hooper said, “and found that the home was well involved in the fire.”
There were four children and two adults in the residence and all occupants made it out of the house, Hooper said. One of the daughters was evaluated for smoke inhalation but she was not transported to the hospital, he said.
The American Red Cross was assisted in getting the family placed.
“The house was a total loss with damages approximating $90,000,” Hooper said. “We had seven engines, two ladders and one squad respond to the scene and the fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.”
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but Hooper said the homeowner stated that they were having some electrical problems the previous days and the day of the fire.
