Man flees from officers after bar fight, crashes into police vehicle

CEDAR CITY — Cedar City Police arrested a 20-year-old man early Sunday morning after officers responded to a bar fight at Toadz Bar and the incident turned into a high-speed chase.

Cedar City police officers were called to a fight at Toadz, located at 432 N. 100 West in Cedar City, at about 1 a.m. A vehicle was seen speeding from the parking lot when police arrived, and the vehicle was pursued, Cedar City Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Jimmy Roden wrote in an email.

The driver, later identified as Cristopher Duran Lorenzo, led police on a chase through Cedar City. Lorenzo lost control of his vehicle shortly after the pursuit began and slid to the side of the road. He was able to start driving again but then rammed into a Southern Utah University police vehicle that was assisting in the pursuit.

After the impact of the collision disabled Lorenzo’s vehicle, he allegedly fled on foot. Officers pursued Lorenzo and were finally able to detain him after using a Taser.

Lorenzo was arrested and booked into the Iron County Jail.

Lorenzo was charged with one third-degree felony for evading police officers, two third-degree felonies for aggravated assault, a third-degree felony for criminal mischief, a class A misdemeanor for failure to stop on command, a class A misdemeanor for reckless endangerment, a class B misdemeanor for reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor for interfering with arrest, a class B misdemeanor for driving under the influence, a class B misdemeanor for driving on a denied license, a class B misdemeanor for false information, a class B misdemeanor for minor purchase or possession of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor for driving on an alcohol-restricted driver’s license and a class C misdemeanor for leaving the scene of an accident. According to bookings information, Lorenzo’s bail stands at $25,000.

    Good job Cedar Police! I sure don’t envy them, having to chase after these idiots. Glad they got this one before he crashed into some innocent bystander.
