ST. GEORGE — A left-hand turn cut too short resulted in a two-car collision Sunday afternoon at the intersection of East Riverside Drive and South River Road in St. George.
At 6:14 p.m., a man driving a dark-grey Buick Lacrosse, heading north on River Road, made a left-hand turn heading west on Riverside Drive, St. George Police Officer Curtis Raban said, when he struck a black Volkswagen Jetta in the turning lane carrying four occupants.
The driver of the Buick reportedly made the turn too short, Raban said, cutting into the turning lane on the upcoming street.
Shannon Evertsen, the driver of the Volkswagen, said two of the four occupants in her vehicle were children.
No injuries were reported, Raban said, but both vehicles required a tow truck to remove them from the scene. The St. George Fire Department also responded to the area to clean up fluid residue from the accident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Wow I hope he learned a lesson there, cause there are so many people that does that and when your uP front in that turn lane and clearly behind the white line and people are zooming in like there’s are fire at there house and look at you like your the idiot. Really, all you have to do is take that left turn nice and slow and you’ll see how easy it is, hello!!!
Sounds like he was hurrying to turn before the opposing car got too close. Idiot.
If you have to take your turns “nice and slow” maybe you shouldn’t be driving your car any more. I can drive my car around corners at a normal speed and still navigate into the lane without crossing the double yellow line, which seems to a major problem with drivers here. The amount of accidents we have here everyday now shows how bad the drivers are here.
I totally agree patient. It is crazy how many people cut that corner short, it’s like they’re afraid they don’t have any room to use their lane, especially when there are 2 turning lanes and the guy on the outside is cutting his corner as well. Ridiculous. I’m surprised it never happened sooner.
The city needs more traffic circles to prevent these accidents
wow. another boneheaded driver in this town. these avoidable accidents every day are getting old.
They need a light in front of the Target Store on River Road.
I don’t know about a light in front of Target. Since the typical speed there is 50 to 55, it would be pretty ugly when they run the red light.
I was in the turning lane at Green Springs when a driver just about ran over the top of my car making his left hand turn. I honked at him because he scared me, he was that close. And he flipped ME off. Like it was my fault he was turning so sharp. It is possible to turn left and clear the other cars. Just pay attention. Even if there is not another car in the other lane you are not supposed to cross those lines.
