ST. GEORGE – One woman was transported to the hospital Monday afternoon after a two-car collision occurred on River Road in St. George.
At approximately 1:23 p.m., a blue Saturn car was traveling northbound on south River Road following a silver Honda car, St. George Police Officer Jamison Hale said, as traffic was backing up for a red light at 1450 South River Road.
The woman driving the silver Honda started to slow down, Hale said, and the man driving the blue Saturn hit his brakes but was too close and smashed into the back of the silver Honda.
The woman driving the silver Honda was transported to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, he said, and the driver of the blue Saturn was issued a citation for following too close.
One northbound lane of traffic was closed and both cars were towed from the scene.
A second collision nearly occurred when the blue Saturn rolled backwards off of a tow truck, but stopped before colliding with the St. George police car parked behind it.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.
