St. George man killed in North Dakota after vehicle collides with cow

ST. GEORGE – The North Dakota Highway Patrol has identified a St. George man as one of two men who were killed after their vehicle struck a cow that was wandering on a road 12 miles east of Mandaree, North Dakota, Friday.

Jake Alexander Holm, 19, of St. George, and Kaleb Newel Steed, 27, of Mountain Home, Idaho, died Friday night after their vehicle collided with a cow, entered a ditch, and then rolled several times before landing on its wheels, North Dakota Highway Patrol Sgt. Christopher Messer said in a news release.

The two men were en route to Elmer’s Point from Skunk Bay in western North Dakota at the time of the collision.

Holm was wearing a seatbelt and Steed was not. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.

Imagine the speed at which the cow leaped out in front of the car. Probly moved like a panther.

I wish you were the cow they hit then you’d be dead and these 2 boys would still be alive!

That was my family and yes one of the boys was former flds, the other was not. One was also expecting his first child, a baby girl due on Christmas day. Any prayers for the young mother are deeply appreciated.
“Bobber” you’re a douche. Go “bob” around somewhere else, your ignorant sarcasm isn’t welcome here.…

I am hoping that someone who reads this message will be able to help me out. Myself and my son, were the individuals who came upon the accident friday night. I am looking for a picture of Jake Holm and Kaleb Steed. As I know this might be selfish on my part – but I need a picture to remember them as who they were vs. the site i saw Friday night. If you can help me out – please send to my email address: [email protected]. Thank you and god bless to his family.

Wow I cant believe some of the comments that are being posted under this article. What a horrible loss of life at such a young age. My heart goes out to all the loved ones affected by this tragedy. And to the a**holes who having nothing better to do then harass grieving people remember although I don’t wish any ill will upon you, life has a funny way of putting the shoe on the other foot. So maybe you should consider “Treating people the way you would want to be treated.” and have some compassion for the people affect.

I think the comment boards need to be removed for awhile until those who only have rude things to say find somewhere else to use their time. It’s far too sad the comments that have been put out there lately. Where is our compassion St George??

  • Doug Bringhurst August 12, 2014 at 9:45 am

My heart is breaking over these 2 young men’s deaths. I knew Kaleb when he was a boy and what a wonderful boy he was. I more than likely knew Jacob too but, for the life of me I can’t place his face.
The difference between these young men and the rabble that has posted negative crap is night and day. Needless to say you rabble are the darkness of the pit of hell.

Jake was one of my son’s best friends! He was such a caring and respectful young man! That people can post such hateful statements about people they don’t even know makes me sick! He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. My heart goes out to his family and all of his friends. The comments on this site should be monitored! Losing your son is devastating without the snide comments!

Humor is solice to the soul, and it gows hand in hand with solice and compassion. Without humor and mirth, you are mere zombies without the spirit of life. No comment meant ill will. They are the manifestations of the spirit of life.
