Parker Gordon Hanson

Parker Gordon Hanson passed away on August 5, 2014, in Henderson, Nevada, at the age of 96. He was born in Fillmore, Utah, on April 15, 1918, and was the oldest child of Hans Alma and Wealthy Parker Hanson.

Parker attended Provo High, Brigham Young University, and University of Utah majoring in business. While attending Provo High he met Garda Pehrson and they were later married on May 14, 1941, and sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They were married for 57 years.

Parker served in the United States Army from 1942-1945 during World War II. He served in Africa, Italy, France, Germany and Okinawa, Japan.

Later, he went to work for J.C. Penny Company managing stores in, Ogden, Utah, Laramie, Wyoming, and St. George, Utah. In 1962, he opened Parker’s Clothing Store in St. George, and, for 17 years he and Garda owned and operated it together. It was a favorite place for friends and family to shop and visit. He also had many wonderful employees over the years.

In 1969, Parker went to work for Wackenhut in their security division at the Nevada Test Site. While working there he won many trophies in pistol shooting competitions.

Upon retirement in 1987, Parker, took up playing the electronic organ. He spent many years in lessons and performing with the Organ Clubs in St. George, Utah, Las Vegas and Henderson Nevada. In 2006 he moved to Henderson, Nevada.

Parker was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a High Priest and served as Ward Financial Clerk for many years in several wards.

Parker was a devoted father and grandfather. His four daughters and grandchildren loved to be with him and came to see him often.

Parker is survived by his four daughters: Kay Garda (Garth) Milne, Lesley Anne (David) Morris, Beverly Michelle (Brent) Woodbury and Debra Christine DeGraw; his brother, Gareld (Betty Jo) Hanson; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Garda; and one sister Ruth.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 11, at 1 p.m. at the Metcalf Mortuary Chapel, 288 W. St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah.
  • A visitation will be held prior to services on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary.
  • Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.
