ST. GEORGE – Two people were arrested Monday on charges of burglary and possession of controlled substances after police began an investigation based on a citizen complaint.
Police arrested Sarah Beth Rose, of St. George, and Lou Shane Nelson, listed as a transient, after a citizen reported they were trespassing on private property.
“We received a complaint that Sarah Rose and another man were in a residence they did not have permission to be in,” St. George Police Capt. Mike Giles said. “The resident contacted us, which started the investigation.”
After police began investigating the complaint, Giles said they were able to determine that property was missing from the residence where Rose and Nelson had been trespassing.
“Officers were able to track down the couple through follow-up and leads received,” Giles said. “Through those interviews, we were able to determine that the man was Lou Nelson.”
Officers were also able to determine the whereabouts of Nelson and Rose. Officers went to the location and were able to locate both parties.
“During the course of that part of the investigation, officers were able to locate property taken from the residence,” Giles said. “They were arrested for the burglary.”
While officers were in the process of recovering and inventorying the stolen property, they also located several prescription pills and other controlled substances in the property of both Rose and Nelson.
Rose and Nelson were each arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.
Rose was charged with three second-degree felony counts of possessing a controlled substance, one second-degree felony count for burglary of a dwelling, one class A misdemeanor for possession of a controlled substance, one class A misdemeanor for theft, and one class A misdemeanor for possession of paraphernalia. Rose’s bail is set at $45,829.
Nelson was charged with one second-degree felony for burglary of a dwelling, one second-degree felony for possession of a controlled substance, one class A misdemeanor for theft, and he was also charged on an unrelated warrant. Nelson’s bail is set at $21,343.
