ST. GEORGE – St. George City fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire at 18 North 500 East Monday morning where they found Corona Flores Latino Market and an upstairs apartment in flames.

“We got paged around 4 a.m.,” St. George Fire Capt. Coty Chadburn said. “When the first crews arrived there were flames coming out of the back patio and going into the home.”

Five engines, two ladders, and a squad of around 25 firefighters responded, he said.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in about 20 minutes after the first engines arrived on scene. After the fire was contained, Chadburn said fire crews still had some hot spots that were burning inside the home in the ceiling and attic to attend to.

Only one man, who occupied the space above the market, was home at the time of the fire, Chadburn said. The man drove himself to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George for suspected smoke inhalation.

St. George Fire is still investigating the cause of the fire.

This report is based on preliminary information and may not contain the full scope of findings.
