CEDAR BREAKS – Wildflower enthusiasts and nature lovers take note: This weekend marks the final days of the Cedar Breaks Wildflower Festival.
Now in its ninth year, the festival is a showcase of color and diversity that only Mother Nature could provide as the forests and meadows of Cedar Breaks are in full bloom.
According to the Cedar Breaks National Monument website, early bloomers such as cushion phlox, kittentails and aspen bluebells start peeking out in late June and are joined by such varieties as scarlet paintbrushes, Colorado columbines, little sunflowers and elkweeds by mid-July.
To celebrate the flowers’ colorful show, Cedar Breaks hosts a yearly festival.
Free guided walking tours are available at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. starting at the Cedar Breaks National Monument Visitor Center, or visitors can pick up a wildflower checklist and a “What’s in Bloom” pamphlet and take a self-guided walk.
Family activities and games are also offered at the Visitor Center on the weekends from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Sunday will mark the last day of this year’s festival.
