Nathan Riley Plumb

Plumb, Nathan(November 10, 1928 – June 25, 2014)

Nathan Riley Plumb, 85, endured to the end of his life journey and left his mortal existence on June 25, 2014, departing his loved ones and leaving his home in St. George, UT.  He was born November 10, 1928, at home in St. David, AZ, to Charles Merlin and Ada Barney Plumb, the fifth of eight children.

Nathan married Betty June Bradburn, August 2, 1948, in Tucson AZ.   Only weeks after their marriage, he left to serve in the Northern States Mission.  Upon his return their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.  They shared 55 years and raised 5 children. He lovingly cared for her during her 6 year battle with cancer, until her death in 2003.

Though he attended the University Of Arizona he left after a year and a half and gained the rest of his education though on the job training. Nathan worked as a salesman most of his life.  He sold wholesale groceries and chemicals.

Nathan loved music and sang with various choirs, chorals, and quartets.  He played several musical instruments and even played in a traveling musical orchestra on his first mission as a young man.

He loved serving his Savior Jesus Christ and served six LDS stake missions and three full time missions. He was always eager to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone he met.  He had a great desire to serve in Russia long before the country was open to missionaries.  He exhibited his faith by learning Russian.  Though he wasn’t called on a mission to Russian he traveled there with the Santa Clara Choral and shared his testimony with the wonderful people he met there.

Nathan loved sports as a participant, spectator and referee, but his greatest joy was seeing his children and grandchildren play.

He married Ruth Ann Bingham Hoff March 26, 2005.  He provided a great example and influence as husband to Ruth, and honorary father and grandfather to her 4 children and 15 grandchildren.

He enjoyed taking trips. He often traveled for work, to visit family and friends, take vacations, or just the sheer joy of “going on a road trip”. He would include anyone who was willing to hop in the car.

He is survived by his: wife Ruth; children: Susan Rae (Douglas) Teeple of Folsom, CA, Jon Riley Plumb of Red Lodge, MT, Brad Allen (Lisa) Plumb of Spokane, WA, Gerald “Jerry” Merlin (Marie) Plumb of Manteca, CA; daughter in law Kathleen Plumb of Ballantine, MT; 27 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren; brothers, Alonzo (Renae) Plumb of Salt Lake City, UT, Paul (Sharon) Plumb of Elizabeth, CO, Vaughn Plumb of Phoenix, AZ

His is preceded in death by his: wife Betty June Bradburn Plumb; brothers Marion Plumb and Gerald Plumb, Sisters Cynthia Patty and Theda Adams; son Robert Nathan Plumb; and great grandson Xavier Joseph Rollins.
