SALT LAKE CITY — There are just two days left to sign up for the annual Clear the Air Challenge that runs July 1-31 and offers more convenient tracking systems and technology features.
The Clear the Air Challenge aims to reduce total emissions through alternative transportation methods and expanding community awareness.
Approximately $10,000 in prizes will be awarded this year to participants ranging from random weekly prizes to categorical prizes to the overall individual Grand Prize champion who will be awarded a $1,300 pair of powder skis provided by Ramp Sports.
The goals of the challenge are to:
- Eliminate 300,000 vehicle trips
- Save 2 million vehicle miles driven
- Engage 10,000 participants
Here are some of the new features implemented for the Clear the Air Challenge to create a system for easier tracking and saving trips:
Social media integration
Sign up with your Facebook account and share Clear the Air Challenge posts to your Timeline.
New tracking tool
A new and improved tracking tool is offered that allows users to sign up using their Facebook profile. This new feature will require users to re-register but only takes 30 seconds to complete. During the registration process you will be asked to join a team/network, although it’s not required.
Set up favorite trips
Frequent trips can easily be added to your tracker dashboard for multiple-day trip recording by clicking on each of the days you repeated the trip and record them all at once.
Trip Planner
To request a quick selection of alternative transportation methods enter in starting and ending locations to the application and receive carpool, vanpool, transit, walking and biking options that are available. Use this feature all year round whether you are tracking trips or not.

So, if I’m to understand this correctly…those of us in Washington County are eligible to participate, and we can win prizes for reducing and eliminating car trips for cleaner air. But if we win, we must either drive or fly to SLC (600 miles round trip) to claim our prize that we earned by reducing emissions?
