ST. GEORGE – Multiple calls came in to the St. George Communications Center just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday as a fight ensued between a large group of people near Waterfront Drive and 2450 East in St. George. Weapons were used in the fight and members from both parties were taken to the hospital due to injuries sustained.
“It was reported about 15 or more people were seen in the street in the area fighting by the Skim Board Park,” St. George Police Department Sgt. Sam Despain said.
By the time officers arrived on scene, most of the people involved in the fight had left the area, he said.
“From what we can find out, there were two groups of people at the Skim Board Park,” Despain said, “words were exchanged, until finally, some punches were thrown – tempers got out of hand and it led to them physically assaulting each other.”
Witnesses reported seeing people involved in the fight with bats and other unspecified weapons.
“There were some weapons used,” Despain said. “There was like a tire iron, but it’s more of a tool used on a jack to jack-up a car – kind of like a tire iron.”
There were some minor injuries and a couple people went to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George as a precaution to get checked out, he said, but nothing serious or life-threatening.
Police upped security at the hospital during this time due to members from both sides of the fight being at the hospital simultaneously.
“The reason that we went – because they had been fighting – we didn’t want them to go down to the hospital, see each, and continue to fight,” Despain said, “so we just put another officer there to make sure that the fight and argument didn’t continue.”
There was no further incident that took place at the hospital.
“We’re interviewing people, we’re gathering names, we’ve got some suspects,” Despain said. “Right now, no arrests have been made, however, we’re still doing some follow-up in regards to some people that were involved with that fight.”
The incident is still under investigation.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

Were these gangs of illegals or those obnoxious white and delightful kids? Gang warfare has been present in St George long before this incident. It’s just getting reported now instead of kept hush about.
Your right about gangs being present in St. George. It was never hush hush and used to be very prevalent. Law enforcement, especially the gang task force has done an excellent job in taming the problem, this is why you don’t hear about it as often. Have to give credit where credit is due.
Sounds like an all around good time…. Maybe they knocked some sense into each other..
Summertime fun. At least it was bats and tire irons….and not guns and knives.
Going to be a long hot summer.
like a bad version of west side story…..
Oh crap!!! there goes the neighborhood….I moved from the south side of Chicago to get away from this stuff and look what followed me…St. Georgie is turning ghetto…LOL.
You can always go back to south side Chicago…..
Kind of reminds me of “The Warriors.” Can you dig it! I’m glad to see that these kids did it old school and did NOT involve a firearm!
Warriors, come out and play. Take that bat and turn you into a popcicle!
That skim board area is nasty. It’s full of trash, trash left behind by the trash that goes there. It smells bad from the garbage on the ground and people urinating & defecating in the bushes next to the bushes. The language the people use is just as filthy as some of their habits. Not a place you’d want to take your kids.
correction “in the bushes next to the sand beach”
I was there when it was just words. Some lady was belligerent and starting it all.
who wants to bet that it was some of those latino wannabe gang banger kids
LOL’D….yup they were some of my homies. Had to go establish some turf
down by the river side. We be gonna be taggin’ the trees and bushes to claim it as our turf. What else is there to do around here in the summertime??
Maybe it was the poor white trash skim boarding punks that think they own that garbage dump the city so loving calls a park. Where are the trash cans? Or restroom facilities ? They could at least put a port-a-potty at the trail head.
Yeah…put the port-a-pottys there so my homies can tag’em.
At what point did St. George News become a promotional platform for local law enforcement? Are there some conflicts of interest that need to be disclosed? It just seems like way too many of your stories are selling us the boys in blue.
Last I checked they are just reporting the NEWS. Oddly enough, that is what news sites do, report news. But you’re probably right S STEED, probably some sort of shady conspiracy going on here. Betta go hide yo kids!!!!!
So folks don’t have to go to huge, horrible Salt Lake City for stuff like this? Hehe.
All you u IDIOTS especially Lol’d and El Jefe, what do you have to say now?
So, where are the details. Who were they and what were they fighting about. There is certainly more to the story. Citizens of St George deserve to know.
Who ever wrote this story need to go back to school. Worst written story I have ever seen.
