BLM seeks comment on environmental assessments for oil, gas lease sale

SALT LAKE CITY – The Bureau of Land Management Green River District is seeking public comment on two environmental assessments analyzing the BLM’s proposal to offer a total of 74,998 acres, comprised of 70 parcels, at the November 2014 oil and gas lease sale. The Vernal Field Office proposes to offer 41,090 acres comprised of 41 parcels; the Price Field Office proposes to offer 33,908 acres comprised of 29 parcels.

Additional information about the proposed parcels is included in the environmental assets, which are now available for public review and comment.

An electronic copy of the Vernal EA can be found online. From the dropdown menus, select “Utah” under state; “UT-Vernal FO” under office; “EA” under document type; “2014” under fiscal year; and “All” under programs, then scan the list for “DOI-BLM-UT-G010-2014-0093-EA” or “Vernal November 2014 Lease Sale.”

Hard copies of both environmental assessments can be obtained in person at the BLM-Utah State Office, 440 W. 200 South, Suite 500 in Salt Lake City. Hard copies of the Vernal Field Office environmental assessment can be obtained at the Vernal Field Office, 170 S. 500 East in Vernal; hard copies of the Price Field Office environmental assessment can be obtained at the Price Field Office, 125 S. 600 West in Price.

The public review and comment period closes at 4:30 p.m. on July 14, 2014. Please note that the most useful comments are those that identify issues relevant to the proposed action or contain new technical or scientific information. Comments containing only opinions or preferences will not receive a formal response but may be considered in the BLM decision-making process. Please reference the “November 2014 Oil and Gas Lease Sale” when submitting comments.

Written comments on the Price Field Office environmental assessment should be mailed to: Bureau of Land Management, Price Field Office, Attn: Don Stephens, 125 S. 600 West, Price, UT 84501. Comments can also be emailed to [email protected].

Before including an address, phone number, email address or other personally identifying information in any comments, be aware that the entire comment – including personally identifying information – may be made publicly available at any time. Requests to withhold personally identifying information from public review can be submitted, but the BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to accommodate them.
