Southern Utah LIVE televises county attorney debate

ST. GEORGE – “Meet the Candidates LIVE,” an interactive, televised political debate, will be broadcast live from St. George Friday, June 20, at 6 p.m.

As the June 24 Republican primary election for the Washington County Attorney seat draws near, candidates Brock Belnap and Nathan Caplin have been invited to debate Friday evening before a moderator and live television studio audience. Both candidates are vying for their party’s nomination, and with no Democratic contender, the winner of the primary will go on to win the general election by default.

Friday’s televised debate will be streamed by Southern Utah LIVE and will be available on STGnews.com and KCSG Television. The debate moderator will be St George News Editor-in-Chief Joyce Kuzmanic, and rules of the debate will be announced to candidates and viewers at the beginning of the broadcast.

Allowing for community participation, viewers of the live broadcast will be given on-screen instructions about how to submit questions to the moderator using Twitter and Facebook.

St. George News readers are invited to submit questions in advance by email to [email protected] – reference “Meet the Candidates LIVE” in the subject line.

What is your take on the numerous harms of polygamy, and what are your plans to address the violations within, and to help women and children who need or want to leave?

In ref to the above, the questions are addressed to the candidates.

I have heard some indicate that the knowledge of the Constitution is not as important as experience is at the County Attorney level. Why would that be?
Also, why would a new set of eyes in that office be a bad thing if the law is equal for us all, and knowledge of that law is available to both candidates?

Good luck Joyce….try to keep them on track and away from the silly speak Always like herding ducks. LOL!

Apparently the only “debate” is over how long it will take KCSG to figure out how to get the sound to work on their television!

    Okay, two new debates:

    1. How many times can the moderator interrupt the candidates when they are trying to speak (to let them know their time has started); and

    2. How many times can KCSG accidentally cut away to commercial when the candidates are speaking?

Really enjoyed the debate. Watched it no less than 3 times last night on the internet. I feel that Joyce did an incredible job at moderating and keeping the debate fair and professional. Really helped all of us to have a much clearer view of who these candidates are, their qualifications, experience and demeanor. We need more of this! Thank you!
