UPDATED: Crews continue battling Pine Valley Fire, partial containment

BEAVER COUNTYUPDATED 9 p.m. – An estimated 110-acre, lightning-caused wildfire continues to burn in Beaver County Thursday afternoon. By 8 p.m. Thursday the fire is 75 percent contained and expected to be fully contained sometime Friday.

Dubbed the Pine Valley Fire, the wildfire ignited Tuesday in the west desert area of Beaver County on the northeast side of Pine Valley.

“It started from lighting that occurred a couple of days ago in this area,” Bureau of Land Management Public Information Officer Yanavey McCloskey said.

McCloskey said the BLM was not aware of the fire at first. When the fire became larger and was discovered, five engines, one helicopter, one water tender, seven smoke jumpers and one hand crew were dispatched to the area.

Crews continue to battle the fire, which is torching, creeping and smoldering in grass, sagebrush and pinion juniper.

As of Thursday evening, no evacuations or road closures have been made. There have been no injuries or evacuations connected with the fire.

Ed. note: Correction made – the fire is on the northeast side of Pine Valley, not Pine Valley Mountain as first stated.

Spot on, Fire, and thank you. It is northwest of Pine Valley not Pine Valley Mountain. Correction has been made – along with an evening update.
