WASHINGTON CITY – A cloudless, calm sky in Washington City Saturday morning provided a perfect day for a hot air balloon ride. Local Southern Utah voters along with their families came out for a chance to ride the balloon as part of a meet and greet event with Sen. Evan Vickers, who is running for re-election to the Utah Senate District 28, representing Beaver and Iron counties, and the eastern half of Washington County.

Vickers is facing challenger Casey Anderson in an upcoming primary on June 24 for the Republican nomination. Whoever wins the nomination effectively wins the seat overall, as there currently is no Democratic or third party candidate running in opposition.

Sen. Curt Bramble, of Provo, brought his own personal hot air balloon and manned the balloon for the event, and Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox, along with Utah Speaker of the House Becky Lockhart, and Utah Sens. Wayne Harper, of Taylorsville, and Stuart Adams, of Layton, along with Rep. Don Ipson, of St. George, and John Westwood, of Cedar City, were all on hand to hand out fresh fruit and doughnuts for breakfast and talk to voters at the event in support of Vickers.

Dozens of families were able to ride in the balloon, which was tethered by rope helped by Lockhart, and were able to soar 10 stories high to see out over the entire valley.

After the balloon event, Vickers and the legislative leaders there to support him went door-to-door campaigning for Vickers, knocking on a total of 1,000 doors in Washington City.

Vickers said of the event:

I think I just may have the greatest friends anyone could be fortunate enough to have. These good leaders came from all over Utah to come and show their support for my candidacy and I just can’t thank them enough.  The hot air balloon rides were spectacular.  The view was breathtaking, and what a fun opportunity Senator Bramble helped provide.  And to get to canvass Washington City with these good leaders by going door-to-door was a chance to participate in the most powerful and grassroots opportunity there is: to talk to voters individually face to face.

Early voting starts on June 10 and runs through June 20.  The final day of voting in the primary election is June 24.
