Former NFL players, varsity team members hone local boys’ football skills

ST. GEORGE – Local boys who will be entering sixth, seventh or eighth grades this fall can fly with the Flyers June 17-19 at the Dixie Flyer football camp.

“They will improve their football skills regardless of their level of experience,” Mike Welker, Dixie High School football booster club president, said.

Boys from any school are invited to attend the camp and hone their football skills. Participating boys will not only receive instruction from Dixie High School coaches and varsity players but they’ll also get to hobnob with some very special guests.

“There will be former NFL players who will drop by and talk to the kids and sign autographs,” Welker said. “It will be cool.”

The camp will be a “no pads” camp, so participating boys will need to wear cleats, running shoes and shorts, as there will be no pads and no hitting.

The camp will take place from 9-11 a.m. each day. Instruction will end around 10:30 a.m., and then guests from the NFL will speak to the boys and sign autographs.

Each participating boy will receive a camp T-shirt and various memorabilia items, and players will also be provided with drinks and snacks during the camp. Participants will additionally get an opportunity later in the year to display what they have learned.

The boys will be invited to show off their football skills during the halftime of a varsity game this fall,” Welker said.

The camp will take place at the Dixie High School football stadium, 350 E. 700 South. The cost to participate is $45 per player.

“It’s going to be designed to teach and improve football skills as well as provide a lot of fun,” Welker said.
