Madeleine Gail Stott Smith, age 77 passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family Sunday, June 1, 2014 in Hurricane, Utah. She was born April 20, 1937, the daughter of Howard and Edith Grace George Stott of Kanosh, Utah. She grew up in Kanosh, Utah, attending grade school, and graduating from Millard High School.

She married her sweetheart, James LaVae Smith, February 7, 1957 in the Manti LDS Temple. They were blessed with four children.

Madeleine loved serving the Lord and people. She served in many Church callings throughout her life. Madeleine and LaVae served in the Louisiana Baton Rouge LDS Mission. She served many years as a St. George LDS Temple worker.

Madeleine loved her family. She had the ability to make everyone around her feel loved. She would plan fun social gatherings, was an excellent cook, and shared her cooking talent with many. Madeleine had a sweet tooth, especially for See’s chocolates.

She is survived by her two sons, Kipp (Cindy) Smith of Parowan, UT, Kirby (Peggy) Smith of Spanish Fork, UT; daughter, Kimberli (Floyd) Crisp of Spanish Fork, UT; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James LaVae Smith; her parents; daughter, Kelly Zeman; three brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral Services

  • Funeral services will be Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Hurricane 11th LDS Ward Chapel, 452 North 2600 West, Hurricane, UT.
  • A viewing will be held prior to services from 9-10:45 a.m.
  • Interment will be 3:30 p.m. in the Fillmore City Cemetery, Fillmore, Utah.
