WASHINGTON CITY – The Washington County Drug Task Force arrested a Washington City man Tuesday for felony drug possession and distribution.
Craig Daniel Johnson, 28, was arrested and charged with one first-degree felony for drug distribution, one second-degree felony for drug possession, and various misdemeanors for drug possession, paraphernalia and use, after the Task Force executed a narcotics search warrant at Johnson’s home on Summerfield Lane in Washington City.
According to the probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrest, police found suspected drug paraphernalia, heroin, cocaine, and two different types of the narcotic Suboxone, in the home and on Johnson.
During an interview with drug task force Detective M. Koester, Johnson admitted to recently using heroin and that the substances suspected to be heroin and cocaine were, in fact, heroin and cocaine, the statement said. Johnson also said that he did not have a valid prescription for the two different types of Suboxone.
Task force detectives also located two different money transfers that Johnson admitted to receiving in Mesquite, Nevada, and then using that money to purchase drugs in Las Vegas.
“Based on my training and experience as a narcotics detective, the amount of suspected heroin recovered was a distributable amount that was purchased for $1,500,” Koester said in the probable cause statement, “and after being broken down for street sales, would turn a significant profit.”
Johnson’s drug related charges were enhanced one degree for being in a Drug Free Zone – the location covered by the search warrant was within 1,000 feet of a meeting house for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located on Sandia Road in Washington.
Johnson was booked into Washington County’s Purgatory Correctional Facility. According to booking information, Johnson’s bail stands at $75,550.
Persons arrested or charged are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Aww man, come on Craig.
Everyone, here is an example of a good man who is stuck in the cycle of addiction. Get better my friend. Relapse is a step to recovery and I know you’ve been trying for a long time but now I think this is rock bottom, time to start climbing out
Wait, isn’t the whole country supposed to be a drug free zone? I’m all for “enhanced charges” when they actually help the punishment fit the crime (which so rarely seems to happen, some get a slap on the wrist and some get ridiculously hammered), but this one seems odd (or at least oddly named).
It’s because they said he had a “distributable amount”. Trumped up to 1st degree. They don’t have any evidence that he is selling drugs except that he had 1500$ worth haha
Meaning he had an Oz. of Heroin.
Seems like you should have said anything to this house worth you know I mean when Craig you know that the code?
