WASHINGTON CITY – The party responsible for a small monkey that was on the loose Wednesday has been found.
The Washington City Police caught the monkey with the aid of a veterinarian in the Coral Canyon area of the city Wednesday evening after being alerted to a small primate’s presence by area residents, said Ed Kantor, WCPD public information officer, in a statement.
Following its capture, the monkey was placed in quarantine at the Washington City Animal Shelter. The police then appealed to the public and the media for aid in finding the party responsible for the animal.
It was announced Friday by the police that the party responsible for the monkey had been located.
Keeping monkeys as pets is illegal under state law, Kantor said, and city animal welfare officers are currently working to place the monkey in an out-of-state animal sanctuary.
So far, no charges have yet been filed in the case. The investigation is ongoing.
“The Washington City Police Department would like to thank the public and members of the media for their assistance in this case,” Kantor said in a statement.
