Mother’s Day: Stand a little taller

MOTHER’S DAY FEATURE – A hero doesn’t have to fight crimes or wear a cape, especially my hero. The one I call my hero will always be in my heart and my love for her will last forever. She is my mother. August of last year I was in a near fatal car accident. The impact broke my skull and glass pierced my brain. I couldn’t see, I couldn’t hear, and I couldn’t walk straight. This was the worst day of my life.

I live in St. George while my family lives four hours away. When my mom received the call, my family rushed to my side. I was going in for brain surgery, and this was the day I would see just how important family truly is. Even when I was in the most pain possible, I had my hero at my side. She helped me get ready, went to every doctor’s appointment, and even helped me walk.

That day I learned an important lesson in life; family is forever. My mom is my idol, I strive to be like her every day. I am proud to call her my mother. “Mothers hold their children’s hands for a short while, but they hold their hearts forever.” I will forever be grateful for her and I wish you a happy mother’s day!
