Cedar and Canyon, two teams that tied for the Region 9 championship this season, opened the state tournament with easy wins Saturday.
The Lady Reds, playing at home as the top seed from the region, beat up on Carbon 7-0 with Marinn Whitney pitching the shutout. Cedar advances to a Thursday winner’s bracket game against Stansbury at 3 p.m. at Spanish Fork’s Swenson Park .
Canyon View, playing in Vernal, whipped North Sanpete 11-1. Kenzie Sawyer homered twice and Kaitlyn Delange and Jayce Slack also went yard in the win. CV plays Uintah at 3 p.m. Thursday in Spanish Fork.
Snow Canyon split a pair of games, falling 2-1 to Juab, then rebounding for a 7-6 win to eliminate Morgan in the later game.
Down 2-0 to the Wasps, SC was able to get a run home in the seventh, but couldn’t force home a the tying runner.
But with the elimination victory, the Warriors stay alive in the tourney and will play at 5 p.m. Thursday in Spanish Fork against the loser of Grantsville and Payson.
Dixie couldn’t get the offense going in two losses Saturday and the Lady Flyers were eliminated. Payson beat Dixie 4-0, then DHS lost an elimination game 2-0 to Union High.
