ST. GEORGE – The Boston Marathon documentary “Still Going Strong: The Boston Marathon” will make its debut at the St. George Running Center Friday night.
Matthew Black, producer at Endevr, a local fitness accessories company, made the documentary for his capstone while completing his film degree at Dixie State University.
“Everything that we do here at Endevr is focused on people’s achievements,” Black said, “their journeys – their endeavors, if you will.”

The documentary tells the story of local and northern Utah runners who participated in the 2014 Boston Marathon and their journeys to get there. After the bombings at the 2013 Boston Marathon, Black said he and his company knew this year would be special.
“It really isn’t about the race at all. It’s the triumph of the human spirit – pressing forward even through adversity,” Black said. “And that was really the whole point of the movie.”
Local runner Scott Hughes, of St. George, was able to take part in the film.
“It was very interesting because it was cause for reflection,” Hughes said.
Hughes ran in the Boston Marathon last year and was present when the bombing occurred. Though he wasn’t planning to return to Boston this year, he said the bombing changed his mind.
“I had determined last year, when I was running it, that I wasn’t going to run it probably for another five years, keep it special,” Hughes said. “After the whole situation, there it was – one of those things that I determined, ‘OK, I’m coming back.’”
St. George resident Amber Green, who is no stranger to the local running community and has won the St. George Marathon in the past, also participated in the documentary filming. Though she did not run in the 2013 Boston Marathon, her 2014 trip to Boston marked her fourth time as a Boston Marathon participant.
After the 2013 bombing, Green spoke with a friend who has also participated in the Boston Marathon in the past. “We both decided right then that we were going to go back because of that,” Green said. “We just wanted to support the city.”
Green said it was great to see how the film came together and to hear many different Boston Marathon experiences – particularly from those who ran the Boston Marathon in 2013.
Black and company will also show their film at the Wasatch Running Center in Sandy on May 17. He has been guaranteed a spot in the September international film festival DOCUTAH, which takes place in St. George.
