ST. GEORGE — Police responded to a one-car rollover on top of the old airport hill in St. George Tuesday evening that resulted in the driver being taken to the hospital. The vehicle rolled off the road and through a yard, landing back on the road upside down and destroying a fence along the way.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., emergency responders were called to Donlee Drive at the intersection of 65 South in St. George. A black Honda Accord was upside down and crushed, with the front window broken out entirely and belongings strewn across the road.
The driver, described by a witness as an Hispanic male, was found 15-20 feet from the car, face down in a gravel yard on the corner of the intersection. His face was bleeding, and his nose appeared to be ripped off, witness Nina Heck, who lives nearby, said. Although he wasn’t moving, the driver did appear to be breathing when responders put him into a Gold Cross Ambulance and transported him from the scene.
No further details about the man’s condition were known or released by those on scene at the accident.
From her home, Heck said she witnessed the car roll at least twice after it passed over the sidewalk, through her neighbor’s yard and then back onto the street.
There was only one man in the car, St. George Police Sgt. Wade Johnson said. At the time, Wade said the cause of the accident was unknown.
After the driver was transported, officers investigated the scene and analyzed the wreckage while the road was blocked off in both directions.
An accident reconstruction team was brought on scene to investigate, Johnson said.
Besides Gold Cross Ambulance and St. George Police Department, the St. George Fire Department also assisted with the incident.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and witness on scene and may not contain the full scope of findings as the matter remains under investigation.
