Wind Advisory for much of Southern Utah

ST. GEORGE — The National Weather Service has issued a “Wind Advisory” for much of the southern half of Utah Monday, excluding the majority of Washington County.  The areas included in the advisory should expect strong wind to develop later Monday morning and increase through the afternoon  before diminishing late in the evening.

Conditions

Expected strong and gusty cross winds – 25 to 35 mph – with gusts up to 50 mph.

Although not in this current “Wind Advisory,” St. George is expected to have winds between 20 and 27 mph most of Monday afternoon and evening according to the Weather Channel Website, weather.com. This was the forecast as of 5 p.m. Sunday.

Areas affected

Most of southern and eastern Utah, including the southwestern and south central valleys, the San Rafael Swell and the Sanpete and Sevier River valleys.  This advisory includes the cities of Kanab, Cedar City, Beaver, Escalante, Milford, Fillmore, Delta, Richfield, Manti, Hanksville, and Green River.

Timing

The advisory is in place for most the day Monday. Gusty winds will develop later Monday morning and increase through the afternoon before diminishing late in the evening.

Impacts

Strong and gusty winds may impact travel especially on east/west routes. Also, areas of blowing dust may reduce visibilities below one mile.

Precautionary/Preparedness actions

Motorists in the advisory area should be prepared for sudden gusty cross winds which can make driving difficult.
