SOUTHERN UTAH – The National Weather Service has issued a “Hard Freeze Warning” in effect from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday for Iron and Washington County.
Areas affected
The western Uinta Basin, Castle Country, the Sanpete and Sevier Valleys, west central Utah and southwest Utah.
Temperatures
Mid- to upper-20s overnight.
Timing
Developing tonight through tomorrow morning.
Impacts
Crops and early gardens will be susceptible to a hard freeze tonight. Take precautions to prevent damage, including covering gardens and bringing in any potted plants.
Precautionary, preparedness actions
A hard freeze warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.

If I understand this, St. George is safe?
Do you guys realize where Washington County is? You say in your article the hard freeze is Cedar City aka Iron county and north. Washington County is south of Cedar City. You’re title says hard freeze fur Washington and Iron counties.
Smiling at you, Rose – I sure hope we realize where Washington County is. The National Weather Service provides us releases with affected areas. If you take a peek at the map inside the story, you’ll see there is a sliver of Washington County included in the affected area – granted, though, it is a sliver which will make many people south of Cedar quite happy, I expect.

Most of us know that St George OBVIOUSLY would not be included in a “hard freeze warning” this late in the season. Bender, residents of St George know it’s typically safe to plant something as sensitive as tomatoes in early-mid March, … I plant mine in mid-late February almost every year for the last several decades and NEVER contended a hard freeze – ever!

Really you guys? this is offensive to you? Thanks for the heads up Ms. Scott. I read the story and it reminded me to double check to make sure how cold it would be at my particular house.
Oh you people kill me Lol! First of all, I know this climate like the back of my hand (except last December’s freak cold snap and heavy snow that killed many palms and other plants) but St. George has not froze this late in the spring in my entire life being here! And STG is not all of Washington County, it’s only a relatively small section of its lowest elevation valley in the south-central part of the county. People, get educated, even if just a tiny bit..
Amazing to see the number of folks that don’t even know their geologic area, much less their own climate. It baffles me, actually.
I’m assuming the ones in question are new to the area.
