Two arrested for aggravated burglary, robbery; one faces multiple drug charges

WASHINGTON CITY – A man and woman were arrested Friday for aggravated burglary and robbery. The woman also faces multiple drug charges.

Around 8 p.m., Wednesday, Washington City Police responded to a home where a burglary and robbery had just been reported, Washington City Police spokesman Ed Kantor said in a statement released Monday.

“The investigation revealed that one adult male and one adult female, both acquaintances of the resident, had entered the home and assaulted the resident,” Kantor said. “The two suspects then took cash from the victim and left the residence. A handgun was displayed during the incident and the victim indicated he was hit several times with the handgun.”

The two suspects were identified as Isaac Franco, 40, and Nicki Mawhorter, 34, both of St. George.

The following afternoon the two were located in St. George by the Washington County Drug Task Force.

According to a probable cause statement, they were found in the area of 500 North Diagonal Street and had been sitting outside. Franco and Mawhorter were detained for questioning in connection with the incident in Washington City.

The area around where Mawhorter had been sitting was searched by detectives and a black pouch was found. Inside the pouch were substances suspected to be cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, and several controlled substances, such as acetaminophen, oxycodone, and hydrocodone.

When a task force detective attempted to interview Mawhorter, she refused to speak with him.

Task force detectives obtained a search warrant for Mawhorter’s room at a relative’s home. While executing the warrant, additional substances and paraphernalia were found, according to a probable cause statement filed in connection with the arrests.

The detectives found suspected methamphetamine and marijuana and its associated paraphernalia. They also found what were described as “several stolen credit cards and stolen check books.” A Utah driver’s license was also found. The name on the driver’s license also matched the name on the stolen credit cards. The stolen ID, cards and checks were confirmed by police to have been reported stolen from a vehicle burglary.

After searching her room, another attempt was made to interview Mawhorter. She again refused to talk.

Franco and Mawhorter were arrested and booked into the Washington County Purgatory Correctional Facility.

Due to Mawhorter living in a “drug free zone,” drug charges stemming from the search warrant were enhanced.

Franco faces two first-degree felony charges, one for aggravated burglary and the other for aggravated robbery. According to booking information, his bail has been set at $40,000.

Mawhorter faces the same charges, as well as five third-degree felony charges related to stolen finance cards and identification, one third-degree felony for drug possession with intent to distribute, six second-degree felonies related to drug possession and possession with intent to distribute, and three class-A misdemeanors for drug possession and paraphernalia.

According to booking information, Mawhorter’s bail has been set at $135,550.

Persons arrested are presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law or as otherwise decided by a trier-of-fact.

Good point. I didn’t catch that the first time I read it. Unless they are talking about hydrocodone with acetamenophine (Lortab),however,
acetaminophen on its own is over the counter.
