ST. GEORGE – Firefighters responded to a blaze inside a metal barn-like structure in the Bloomington area of St. George Sunday night. While firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the building, vehicles and other property stored inside were reported as a total loss.

Between 9-9:30 p.m., the St. George Communications Center began to receive multiple calls concerning a possible barn fire at the end of Blackberry Circle, St. George Fire Chief Robert Stoker said. The fire appeared to have been burning for some time before it was noticed, as the first fire unit on the scene reported it was fairly involved when they arrived.

“They had a heavy fire showing throughout the building, out the doors and windows,” Stoker said.

Multiple fire crews were dispatched to help combat the fire which was largely contained to the inside of what Stoker described as a large, three-bay garage. Being a metal structure, he said most of the fire seen outside was coming from the windows or the large roll-up doors.

Two vehicles, two boats and miscellaneous equipment inside the garage were torched and are considered a total loss, Stoker said. Some hay stored within the structure was also burned. “Everything in the garage-area is fairly well-burned,” he said. “There’s extensive damage.”

The fire was contained in the metal garage and kept from spreading to a another structure close by. Operations began to wind down at the scene around 11 p.m. By 11:20 fire engines were beginning to be released from the scene.

As of 11:30 p.m., Stoker said the cause of the fire was unknown, though an investigation will begin Monday morning. No injuries were reported.
