HURRICANE – Three people were transported to the hospital after a 3-vehicle collision at the intersection of 2260 West State Street, also known as state Route 9, in Hurricane at 11:50 a.m. Monday.
The collision involved a maroon Honda Accord, a red Mazda passenger car and a green Ford F150 truck.
“It appears that the Honda Accord was traveling south on 2260 West and came to the light and made a left-hand turn at the light on State Street,” Hurricane City Police Sgt. Brandon Buell said. “The red Mazda was traveling westbound and approached that intersection. Those two vehicles collided in the intersection which then pushed the Mazda into the Ford F150.”
From the three vehicles involved in the crash, there were a total of five people, Buell said. One female in serious condition and one male with minor injuries were both transported by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. A third person was reportedly taken to the hospital by a private party, he said.
“Traffic going westbound was completely blocked and had to be diverted down 2260 to 600 North,” Buell said. “Traffic coming eastbound into town was diverted to one lane.”
The traffic diversion lasted about 40 minutes.
The investigation was still underway as this report was prepared. No citations had yet been issued.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement and may not contain the full scope of findings.
