Soccer roundup: Panthers back on top of region with shutout win over Thunder

ST. GEORGE — Pine View grabbed three victory points Friday night and put itself back on top of Region 9 by shutting out Desert Hills 2-0 at Panther Stadium.

Pine-view-smDesert-Hills-smKeith Collins and Federico Resendis each scored and Justin Jones recorded his third shutout of the season as the Panthers dominated the pitch for the win.

Both of PV’s goals came in the first half as the Panthers improved to 8-1-2 overall on the season. Pine View is 5-1-1 in region play, good enough for 16 points, three ahead of both Snow Canyon and Dixie in the region race.

Pine View has five games left as does Dixie. Snow Canyon has six games remaining.

The Panthers, who have won three straight, play at Dixie Tuesday night.

Desert Hills, 3-7-1 overall and 2-5-0 in region, remains three points behind in the chase for the fourth spot in the playoffs. The Thunder are home for Snow Canyon Tuesday night.

Dixie 3, Cedar 1

dixie-smcedar-smThe Flyers pulled into a tie with Snow Canyon for second place with the win at Cedar.

Conner Beuhner, Jonathan Acosta and Luis Rabado all scored a goal as Dixie broke open a 1-1 halftime deadlock. Michael Briano had the lone goal for the Redmen.

Dixie, 7-2-2 overall and 4-2-1 in region, has 13 points, three behind PV and a tie with SC. Both teams are now four points ahead of Cedar, which fell to 6-4-0 and 3-3-0 and has 9 points in region.

Dixie hosts Pine View Tuesday while Cedar is at Hurricane.

Hurricane 3, Canyon View 1

hurricane-smcanyon-view-smKyson Spendlove, Noah Elison and Stanley Rosander all scored as the Tigers rolled to their second region win.

Hurricane, 5-4-1 and 2-4-0 has six region points and is three out of playoff contention.

Canyon View fell to 3-7-1 and 1-5-1.
