With Pine View on a bye, Snow Canyon seized the opportunity to score three victory points and pull into a first-place tie with the Panthers by shutting out Cedar 3-0 Tuesday afternoon in Iron County.
On a cold and blustery day on the pitch, Juan Grijalva scored a pair of goals and Branson Stafford notched a score as the Warriors captured the key road win. Stafford’s was the lone goal of the first half and ended up being the only tally needed for SC keeper Tyson Brough, who earned the shutout.
The Warriors improved to 5-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in region play with the win. Snow Canyon will take Friday off before heading across town to take on Desert Hills next Tuesday.
For Cedar, it was the second straight loss after starting region play 3-0. The Redmen fell to 6-3-0 overall and 3-2-0 in region play. Cedar is home for Dixie Friday afternoon.
Canyon View 2, Dixie 1
Weather and travel may have contributed to this shocker as the Falcons got their first region win of the year. Dallin Wicker and Daniel Valasco each scored for Canyon View, which improved to 3-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in region play.
The Flyers, 6-2-2 overall and 3-2-1 in region, got their lone goal from Francisco Guzman. CV is at Hurricane Friday, while Dixie travels to Cedar.
Desert Hills 2, Hurricane 1
The Thunder pulled to within three points of fourth place Cedar with the win Tuesday.
Brandon Parry and Hunter Spray each scored a goal in the home win for Desert Hills, which improved to 3-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in region games. The Thunder are at Pine View Friday night.
Hurricane, 4-4-1 and 1-4-0, is home for Canyon View Friday night.
