Just before noon on Tuesday, Robert Cruz, Jr., of St. George, was riding his bike near 400 East St. George Boulevard when St. George Police officers stopped to talk to him, Police Sgt. Sam Despain said.

“A couple of our officers recognized an individual who was riding his bike down the street,” Despain said. “They recognized him and knew that this gentleman had some warrants for his arrest.”

After the officers tried to make contact with Cruz, he fled on foot and a chase ensued.

Police searched for Cruz in areas between 400 East and Target on River Road in St. George.

“Our officers gave a short pursuit in trying to make contact with him because of the warrants,” Despain said.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., officers were clearing backyards near The Mesas condominiums on River Road, situated between the Skywest Corporate Headquarters building and the Troon Park office complex.

Authorities concluded their search at approximately 1:20 p.m., at which time Cruz still had not been located.

“We tried to do what we could to find and locate him, but apparently he had fled the area and we weren’t able to find him,” Despain said.

The public is asked to call the St. George Police Department at 435-627-4300, if they have any information regarding Robert Cruz’s whereabouts.

This report is based on preliminary information provided by the authorities and may not contain the full scope of findings.

More like he fled on his Bike, they had him right there and he jumped the curb with his bike. It was common sense to surround the subject instead of all chasing him from one direction….. DUHHH
